I really don’t want to hear the the menu of food metaphors, such as "one bad apple spoiling the whole barrel’ or "you have to break a few eggs to make a Freedom omelette" as an excuse for this. And I don’t care how many schools the soldiers paint; they will never be able to whitewash the blood from the hands of George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, Richard Perle, Paul Wolfowitz, Bill Kristol, Douglas Feith that stains us all.

Who would have ever thought that when we invaded Iraq, that our little experiment in democracy building would yield massive fraud and embezzlement, jacked-up sociopaths paid with tax dollars roaming the streets and killing innocent civilians, American soldiers committing rape and murder, bribery in Congress, torture, well-connected American corporations covering up even more rape and assault on their own employees, and even more cover-ups involving fraud and graft by the very investigators who are supposed to guard against these things?

Jeez, aren’t we gloomy?
Most of those clowns are too old to hang, much as they deserve it. Have they seen the footage of what happens to demagogues and tyrants when people have had enough? When I was in high school, I saw a clip of Mussolini hanging from a lightpole, his junk stuffed in his mouth. I think they would beg for the relative safety of the Hague if they knew what kind of anger they have stirred up.
I don’t think they’ll ever face justice. A few pardons, if needed, and it’ll be just like Iran-Contra: they go to ground and re-surface when the pendulum swings back.
Bush/Cheney could be impeached in 2 months with a motivated opposition party. Or any opposition party.
Here’s some details on what happens when things get ugly.
And I agree, a motivated legislature could both withdraw the troops and discipline the rascals here at home. Know where we can find one?
Why are they “too old to hang?” Hanging’s too good for them. A few hours of waterboarding just to start. The removal of Cheney’s heart defibrillator (no free gov’t. services for the bastard). And so on.
I say we use classic American values. Stocks. Reflecting pool. Vegetables. Eggs. Paaaaaaaaaaaarty.
Nothing happens to us that we do not create, promote or allow.
dang, TBogg. I don’t know as I’ve ever seen that tone in one of your posts…I mean, I *know* that tone because it’s pretty close to my 24/7 own, but…well, just never seen it at TBogg before. I think it’s entirely apropos and wish every parent would read it.
I am in complete agreement with this post. It’s hard to be witty in the face of overwhelming evidence that we are all being dragged to hell by our “Leaders”.
To paraphrase from a different moment in Blazing Saddles:
There’s no escaping this conclusion: Our country is turning into shit.
(P.S. to Nancy Pelosi – fuck off, bitch.)
well at least the humming housing sector will keep our economy afloat.
You get the feeling that every CPAC conference starts with ACU Chair David Keene getting his collected wingnuts to give the Conservative Pledge of Allegiance:
“I…state your name…”
“I…state your name…”
I followed some of those links, but “well-connected American corporations covering up even more rape and assault on their own employees” (the ABC news 20/20 story) really made me sick. A young woman joins KBR, goes to Iraq, she’s ON THEIR SIDE, she gets gang-raped by her co-workers, and the company tries to cover it up.
It’s not just the brown people they’re after, they’ll do anything to anybody. The subcontracting of war has to stop.
It really is the ultimate in legal weaseling; by subcontracting the war, you can do anything with no risk of legal repercussions. Just ask this poor woman who was gang-raped by her co-workers, and then Halliburton very conveniently lost the rape kit. No evidence, no crime.
