George Bush appoints James Glassman to replace Karen Hughes:
President Bush intends to name a well-known conservative commentator and journalist to lead the State Department's struggling efforts to improve the U.S.'s image abroad, replacing long-time confidante Karen Hughes, who is leaving government by the end of the year, The Associated Press has learned.
Bush plans to tap James K. Glassman, now chairman of the Broadcasting Board of Governors, which oversees the Voice of America, to be the new undersecretary of state for public diplomacy and public affairs, administration officials said.
The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because the announcement has not yet been made. The officials said the choice was expected to be made public by Friday, the day Hughes has set for her departure and return to Texas after two years in the post.
Glassman was chosen in part because he has already won Senate confirmation for his current job, which he began in June, and the administration was looking for someone who could avoid a bruising confirmation fight in an election year, the officials said.
If confirmed, Glassman would take over an outreach operation that has been criticized for being ineffective, particularly in the Muslim world.
First let me get this out of the way:
He sure has some big shoes to fill.
Okay. I feel better now.
Moving on, I guess if you're going to send someone to do an impossible job, it's best to send in a wild-eyed enthusiast who believes that nothing is impossible
Yeah. That guy. He'll have them investing in sand futures.

Hope thats more acceptable than Zed.
Bush/Cheney White House 2008: If any of us had a clue, or a chance, would we still be hanging around here?
He sure has some big shoes to fill.
It took a couple seconds, but I got there.
Has anyone else noticed what happens if you photoshop a small moustache, thatch and rimless glasses on an image of Cheney? Reichsfeurer SS Heinrich Himmler, come on down!
Yeesh. I was wondering what the “36,000″ meant. When I was a book-store wage-slave I had to stock the shelves with that appropriately brown colored item. That “reality” was never exactly created, was it?
The United States of BushCo: No matter how stupid you are or how wrong your predictions, you will have a position of authority in our organization.
It’s a brilliant strategy. Eventually Bush really will look like the most sane and intelligent one of the bunch.
He sure has some big shoes to fill.
I see what you did there.
Touche, sir.
And, yeah, these people never face any penalty for being wrong. It’s like they’re ESPN talking heads, but, you know, with bombs.
…and because he is as untethered from anything approaching reality as the people who engineered the administration’s Middle East ‘policy’.
Sounds like a perfect fit.
Oh the snark….it burns!
Talk incoherently and carry a big shoe.
well, Mr. Bogg, I was never one to chime in the constant bleating chorus of “Great post____!” commonly heard in your new neighborhood, but this is, like…..a great post. I mean the title alone is worth the price of this login bullshit.
actually I meant that for the clenis clagina post, but this one is good too.
I’m gonna have to start bringing a GPS unit….
After that cover blurb, why would anyone subscribe to the Kiplinger Newsletter? He must be an idiot, too.
I recall when that book came out; let’s see, just about at the top of the bubble. The disgusting thing is idiot financial journalism like that is what sucks the rubes in to finally putting all their coins in the market, just in time to be the last ones buying in. Always. And this is the point where the pros pull their money and start betting on the downside. Always, like clockwork.
I am overjoyed to see someone as prescient as this fellow in such an important position. Why, we can use his every pronouncement as an inverse indicator; after all, he’s got quite the public track record.
Precisely. Like almost every aspect of bushco, the inverse of their actions/positions are correct. Consistency is the chimps greatest attribute.

That skill is worth big money on Wall Street, and thus also to Cheney Corp.
