Begging round the sun beaten streets
I can't make me no connections
Locals here no speak no English
Where is my woman, well no one knows
Ah well, some girls just have to leave in the night
While you're fast asleep
But I don't worry, I move in the dark
There were lights, there were border lights
I thought I heard that drum in the distance playing
I saw the light, I crossed my heart and beat angels were there - Rickie Lee Jones
The Nightfly - Donald Fagen

The Modern World - The Jam

Grazie.

Today is the solstice festival.
Just think.
5,000 years ago, the people of the earth had no proof that the sun god would come back after the shortest day and that the days would continue to get shorter until the world dwindled into unexistence.
Can’t think of a better reason to let it all hang out.
Can’t believe you’d air a private grievance in a civilized public forum as you did in the Bride thread.
Your shame is exceeded only by your lack of cogent argument.
Please contact TBogg for my email address so you can hurl your worthless invective at me personally, as I so courteously did for you.
Yours cordially.
I meant the No Class thread.
Fitting.
I expect this will be the end of the public portion of the you v. me debate, but given your previous lack of courtesy I have my doubts.

What do I hear, what do I hear?
Chit-chat, and clinking glass
Cheap talk, a lady’s laugh
After hours
What do I see, what do I see?
Some sunken hideaway
Where people go to play
After hours
There I’ll spend the night
Meeting fancy things
At bistros and old haunts
Trying very hard to sin
Then it is day and in a way
The pattern’s much the same
In-spots, a matinee
Everyday
Blend with the crowd, blend with the loud
Hypnotic ebb and flow
Until the day goes slowly
Into night
See the same old crowd
At bistros and old haunts
‘Til the lights grow dim,
The not-so-subtle hint to be gone
Chorus:
Thank God it’s not Christmas
When there is only you
And nothing else to do
Thank God it’s not Christmas
Where there’s just you to do
The rest is closed to public view
Caroling kids, caroling kids
A trifle premature, in tones so rich and pure
And crystalline
Call for the day, the popular day
It’s fast approaching now
But will the mood allow
One dissent
If this were the Seine
We’d be very suave
But it’s just the rain
Washing down the boulevard
Chorus:
Popular days, the popular ways
Are for the chosen few
Not meant for me and you
Obviously
Popular nights, poplar rites
Great things to say and do
Aren’t said or done by you
Obviously
If this were Seine
We’d be very suave
But it’s just the rain
Washing down the boulevard
Long time reader, first time playing!!

Cosmy writes: Can’t believe you’d air a private grievance in a civilized public forum …
After he comments… in a public forum. And so he brings it up in public forum on a random ten thread. Commenting, of course, three times- cause he has so much of nothing to say he posts repeatedly. Meanwhile on another public comment, the “No-Class Warfare thread, ironically, he comments:
Not only is he a brave man, on the internet, and can insult and berate people, on the internet, but he is a doctor, on the internet.
Why would I want your email? Then you can email me your drivel directly? Are you completely fucking stupid? Never mind.
They play the hell out of these guys on Sirius’ Punk channel. I am really starting to like them. Instead of a ska influence they play punk with an Celtic/Irish influence. Great stuff!

Tim,
Dropkick Murphys are definitely their own thing. If you want to tune down the punk but keep the rock and Celtic influences, take a look at Enter the Haggis. Great band out of our neighboUr to the North.

So very happy to see others listening to Sparks & Haydn.
Actually, I like the punk of the Murphy’s. They aren’t Bad Religion (My favorite punk band), but they sound pretty damn good. I will download some song by the bands you guys, socaljason and Hawes, suggested and see how I like them.
My favorite Clash album was “Give ‘Em Enough Rope” if that tells you about my preferences. It was the one with the least ska influence.
Vervein- “Walkie Talkie”
River City Rapists – “I Never Sleep”
Okkervil River – “The Velocity of Saul at the Time of His Conversion”
Liliput – “Umamm”
Rainer Maria – “Clear And True”
Les Breastfeeders – “Et j’apprendrai que c’est l’hiver”
Naked City – “Speedfreaks”
Gil Scott-Heron – “Brother”
Speedealer – “Zeke”
Malajube – “Le Crabe”
Bonus: Neutral Milk Hotel – Bucket (live 96-08-01)
I never understood the appeal of Bad Religion.
They wouldn’t crack my top 25 SOCAL punk bands.
Black Flag, Circle Jerks, TSOL (early), Descendents, Adolescents, X,
Weirdos, Controllers, Los Plugz, Red Kross (early), Dils, Screamers,
the Bags, Social Distortion (early), Germs, Agent Orange, Middle Class, Alleycats, the Crowd, Gears, Simpletones, Skulls, the Joykiller,
Shattered Faith, US Bombs.
All of those bands were/are better than Bad Religion — and that’s just
off the top of my head.
Tim,
If you look up Enter the Haggis, take a listen to “Gasoline,” “Lannigan’s Ball” and one of their traditional pieces, like “Star of the County Down” or “Donald, Where’s Your Trousers?”. Definitely a little tamer than your usual tastes, based on Bad Religion and “Give ‘em Enough Rope.” Grab some Flogging Molly while you’re poking around the Celtic section, too.
The Dickies, Fear, Angry Samoans, the Zeros (”Don’t Push Me Around”),
Mad Society, the Klan…you get the idea.
Ok, post-pre-Friday etc…
1. Yesterday - The Beatles (alt. version from Anthology 2)
2. Half Life - Bellwether

4. Baltimore - Bellwether

8. Dim Light - Bellwether
9. Jimmy Carter - Blue Mountain
10.Fearless Heart - Steve Earle
and my Fearless Festivus Finale –
11.Coal Creek - Roscoe Holcomb
Hmm…Bellwether is always over-represented in the Shuffle. Baltimore and Jimmy Carter are definitely in my top 25 all-time — just short catchy tunes.
Cheers,
Hockeysuit!

As a professional bowler, part time astronaut and three time “Kiwanis Man of The Year” award nominee, I believe I have the right to tell you both to shut up the fuck.
Can’t you kids just play nice and not pollute the threads with your back and forth? Neither will win, and even if you do, special olympics/gold/retard…you know the drill.
Carry on.

I have always loved Bad Religion. Rancid and Social D are up there as well. I come to punk via old garage. I may lean a bit towards the melodic? I am still really exploring however. I will download those mentioned bands.
And to dbati who for some unknown reason suddenly wants to come to the party late, go blow your Kiwanis! Mind you I do have relatives who were on the professional bowlers tour. And leave the diapers at home if you stalk anybody- you will only be made fun of in the press.
If you lean toward the melodic, I’d check out the Dickies, the Joykiller, Descendents, TSOL’s “Beneath the Shadows” lp, the Vandals “Ladykiller”,
Agent Orange, All, Simpletones, Adolescents.
I wouldn’t count Gun Club as a punk band but they were in the mix back in the day.
All SoCal. You’ll dig ‘em, methinks.
gttim:
I always travel with an adult diaper, you know, just in case.
As for being late to the party, that’s just the way I roll at these FR10’s. I’ve been late to the party for a long time over at the old place, and now here, at the new “improved” place.
BTW: That Mav’s surf footage on your site is amazing. I’ve a buddy who’s been surfing out there since the early 90’s. He was one of the first (other than Clark, or course) to regularly ride.
I need to check out some of those myself, but I’ll put in a good word for Agent Orange. Living in Darkness is a great album.
I recognize TSOL but can not remember which songs. I will open up Limewire tonight. As Tom points out, Agent Orange is great. I got turned onto them by their Pipeline cover. My two newest favorites are The Distillers and The Riverboat Gamblers. It is a shame I cannot go and just by CDs by bands like that. I will have to make a trip to a special CD store in town or order.
dbati , I have not surfed since I was a kid, and only a few times then, but I love watching big wave stuff. I used to stream Mav’s competition all the time, but missed it this year. Flea’s wipeout was epic! The guy is like a drunk in a car accident- he just doesn’t seem to get hurt. I have not made it to Half Moon Bay when in SF, but plan to make it priority next time. Of course, I hope to move there one day and join my hippie brothers! If you get in a car wreck, make sure that diaper is clean!
TSOL! Great great band…but ya gotta be careful as there were two versions of TSOL, one I recommend (the Original TSOL) and one I never listened to and can’t say.
I highly recommend anything off the aforementioned Beneath The Shadows, Dance With Me, and TSOL (1st ep).
Dance With Me is less melodic than BTS but more powerful.
Check out “Code Blue” — “I wanna fuck the dead!”
Great stuff.

Thanks for mentioning Limewire. I’ve been looking for a place to visit since Oink went away.
