Mickey Kaus is a glass-half-full kind of guy:
Are you impressed with a drop in home values of 6.6% over a year? It doesn't seem like such a big correction, given the dramatic run-up in prices over the last decade or so. ... And don't declining prices make housing more... what's the word? ... affordable?** ... This evening NBC Nightly News billboarded a "housing CRISIS." (Link available here.) I thought a "housing crisis" was when people couldn't find housing, not when it got cheaper. (NBC's expert: "It's very, very difficult to find any silver lining." No it's not.) ...
I've often thought that a massive worldwide flu epidemic would make movie theaters a lot less crowded, a great deal quieter, and would therefore improve the quality of my movie-going experience. I just never say that out loud. Particularly while the movie is running...

What a happy world Mickey lives in, where no one borrows against their now-nonexistent home equity.
Apparently Mickey has decided to one-up Jonah on the Idiotic Argument of the Week contest.
…and everybody is a first-time buyer who doesn’t have to sell their existing house to get the down-payment money for the next.
Mickey always reminds me of something a cop says in Ruthless People:
“This could very well be the stupidest person on the face of the earth. Perhaps we should shoot him.”
Well hell. AIDS only infects .004% of the US population. Obviously not a significant problem and one we can simply ignore, especially since it primarily afflicts teh Gays (eeek!) and those shiftless black and brown folks, not decent, god-fearing, hard-working, straight, white folks like us. Obviously there is no cure for congenital idiocy .
Hey Mickey!
Are you impressed when the Dow drops 6%? When your savings account magically shrinks by 6%. Many in the reality-based world use their homes as their main investment medium, and also as a source of cash via loans.
Of course, despite the new “affordability,” many in the US cannot find housing, and many who have it are losing it.
Sorry to let the facts intrude on your wonderful stream of consciousness rant - you were doing so well! Now go lie down and take your meds.
Well let’s see what else happens when housing prices take a sharp fall…home builders aren’t sure what price they’ll be able to get for a new home…so they quite building new ones…all those carpenters and electricians aren’t getting hired…they don’t have money to spend down at the Piggly Wiggly…or at the Dodge truck dealership…demand for steel falls off…stock prices decline…the value of pension funds too…
But hey, Mickey’s doing fine. There’s always a silver lining, eh?
I wonder if Mickey would be “impressed” if 6.6% of the goats he’s been fucking (see Atrios) were to suddenly leave for greener pastures, and/or more traditional goat-on-goat sex?
oh mickey what a pity you don’t understand…..
Mickey fell out of the stupid tree and hit every goddamn branch on the way down.
“Oh Mickey, you’re so blind,
You’re so blind you blow my mind.
Hey Mickey!”
Mickey has always been a glass-half-full kinda guy… as long as it’s somebody else’s glass he’s talking about. He probably negotiated what he’s been assured is a 6.6% increase in his salary in return for cheerfully regurgitating this week’s Panglossian talking points.
mickey’s glass always has been half full…
of soylent green…
and mickey likes it…
