Kathryn Jean Lopez has thus far has avoided the roving gangs of feminists who grab women off of the street throw them into unmarked vans and force them to have abortions whether they are pregnant or not which would be depend on whether they have ever been within three miles of Bill Clinton. Yes. He is that powerful.
Today, K-Lo shares this picture with us
…with this:
Faces of Anti-Abortion Activism [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
From the West Coast Walk for Life in San Francisco yesterday:
Point taken.
Yes there are cute young girls out there who are against abortion and, God willing and the condom doesn’t break, they are fully committed to never ever ever having an abortion. Right now. This minute. While they march.
Which is a far cry from the moment when a little blue cross (and, no, it’s not a sign that you are carrying Our Savior 2.0) shows up on the e.p.t stick. Because, unless it is a planned pregnancy, somehow that moment isn’t going to feel anything like that day when you were walking in the sun, holding a banner, and feeling remarkably virtuous and closer to God. It is at that moment when the phrase "women deserve better than abortion" becomes "women deserve the right to decide what comes next".
That’s called "choice" and a lot of people have fought so that you could have it even though you think you’ll never need it.
And, hard as this is to believe right now, this minute, the day may come when you realize that life is not about what you think you "deserve", but about having the option to get what you need.

You got that right.
Wow.
Can I just pop in here out of Lurkistan and say Thank You!?
Amazingly said.
Just. Wow.
very nicely put. no more snark needed.
here’s hoping k-lo will never need the abortion she thinks she can do without; here’s hoping she’ll one day grow smart enough and, yes, compassionate enough, to appreciate what the right to choose might mean to women who aren’t quite as fortunate as she.
“women deserve the right to decide what comes next”.
Isn’t that the goal of “personal responsibility”? That an individual is guaranteed the right to make decisions they think best for themselves?
If that means terminating an unwanted pregnancy, however, well, those who choose abortion are just godless sluts.
Well said, tbogg.
You speak of what women “deserve”; I believe Lopez and my fundy idiot sister believe that they “deserve” every minute/hour/lifetime of hell that comes from an unplanned pregnancy. Doubly so if you are unmarried and therefore a slut (in their eyes). Jebus would be so proud…
Sadly, you’re preachin’ to the choir, and not reachin’the audience that needs to recognize these simple truths.
Occasionally, I take a moment to wonder if the Cornerites and their assorted ilk are sincere in their beliefs. I tend to think not, since they never seem to support their beliefs with honest arguments. But it is not for me to say what is truly in their hearts and minds.
And, even more sadly, I have not the energy to care. So these moments tend to be quite brief.
I’ve never heard a man understand that so well. This is not a backhanded compliment, I’m just rarely in the presence of men who genuinely have thought so well through a situation they personally will never face, and can explain it with both genuine understanding and compassion for those on both sides.
Thanks, Tbogg.
Game. Set. Match.
Well said TBogg.
Recently, a distant family member showed me a picture of an abortion being performed and asked how I could support it. I stated that I imagine a picture taken during open heart surgery is probably pretty gruesome too…but I would still choose to get it done if I had too.
Then I asked her if she regretted not choosing to have an abortion since her 5 year old kid is such a fucking brat…
If only their dogma was in face about the culture of life … but it isn’t, it’s about being a more moral person than everyone else. It isn’t about loving unborn babies, it is about hating adults who don’t share (lockstep) their dictates.
Here’s raising an MLK beer to the idea that they get their asses kicked in November, and we knock them and their silly stone-age notions back to the stone age.
Correct LiberaTarian, they loves them some fetus, but can’t be bothered with any programs to help the kid out if it has the poor taste to have been born, well, poor.
Thank you, TBogg! Awesome post.
LiberaTarian is right. Pro Life? Culture of Life? In a pig’s eye.
Pro-fetus, anti-choice. It’s still about judging and punishing women for their sexuality.
Spit.

Thank you for this- my favorite bumpersticker of all time- “if men could get pregnant, abortion would be a sacrament”. These young women have no idea of the struggle it has been, and still is, to keep the little progress we have made.
Nicely said, sir.
Reminds me of the chapter in Susan Faludi’s “Backlash” where the women’s services worker recounts the story of the women who protest against abortion, then secretly bring their daughters in for an abortion, then go right back to protesting the next week.
Ditto to all of the above. Very well articulated.
Tbogg loves two very smart and talented and beautiful women, and posts like this show why they love him back. Thanks again, Mr. Tbogg, for understanding what Ms. Lopez and many others do not.
they loves them some fetus, but can’t be bothered with any programs to help the kid out if it has the poor taste to have been born, well, poor.
Well, if God didn’t hate them, they wouldn’t have been born to poor parents. But even though he hated them enough to make them born to poor parents, he still loves them and wants them to be born.
See? It all works out.
Is #2 from the left stoned, or is she sneaking hits of Mom’s Botox?
“Is #2 from the left stoned, or is she sneaking hits of Mom’s Botox?”
Or is that the creepy lady from atlasshrugs?
Not sure if you’ve seen this, but… “The Only Moral Abortion is My Abortion”.
Thank you all for the kind recogition of my husband as the enlightened, articulate pro-choice male of the species that he is. We will celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in July and as the issue of choice is the ONE for me (I will never, under any circumstances, vote for a candidate that is not consistently, vocally, unwaveringly pro-choice), this post makes me especially proud. And yes, his two girls do love him!
And with an admirable economy of words, Tbogg just slices, dices, purees and makes julienne fries, too. Bless you.
What makes you think that these women aren’t as indoctrinated as the young men who voted for Bush despite the cynical view of this administration that these boys are little but cannonfodder?
This is a rather simplistic case to make. Yea, a few might be persuaded they were wrong (just as “Roe” now feels differently about her landmark case), but most people don’t indulge in cognitive dissonance of this magnitude.
Well, the Teen Titans against Abortion angle has bad it to the front page of the LA Times. AGAIN. After handing over the page 1 left column above the fold to the “post-abortive men” who were traumitized by their abortions, we now have a generation of kids trained to “spiritually adopt” a stranger’s fetus, giving it a name, hair and eye color, favorite pastimes, etc. There’s more over at World o’ Crap
Sorry for the blogwhoring, but the Times’ willingness to turn over the front page to every passing anti-abortion fad pulled from the movement’s collect ass is really starting to irk me. But at least it explains their hiring of Jonah Goldberg.
