Hmmm… Funny how the two candidates who’ve received the most in campaign contributions from military personnel are Paul, the only Republican who says he’ll end the war, and Barack Obama, considering the “87% moderate to conservative” military. Funny how being moderate or conservative doesn’t necessarily translate into wanting to continue this fiasco. Especially when it’s your own ass on the line. Or is this weasel going to consider Ron Paul a liberal?

Also funny how military campaign contributions to Democrats went from 23% in 2002 to 40% as of last September. Gee, what’s happened since 2002 that would cause so many service members to want to give money to Democrats?

Oh, but you know who definitely continues to support the Republicans far more than the Democrats? Defense contractors, that’s who. Wonder why that might be? What on earth would they stand to gain by keeping Republicans in power? I’m sure that they want to continue occupying Iraq indefinetely because they’re patriots.

Interesting that the defense industry is, for the moment, slightly more supportive of Dems that Reps for the first time since 1994. Either they haven’t yet pulled out the stops for the general election, or they see the writing on the wall for the GOP and want to keep their influence.

So, Jason, you cite numbers from a poll that God knows who conducted. And you lump in the 39% of moderates with conservatives. Most of the people here would probably classify themselves as moderates and they all think the war in Iraq is a debacle of biblical proportions. You can go online and find polls that say Kucinich or Paul are the leading contenders for the presidency. That doesn’t make it so.

I’m sure Tbogg supports the police, but he’s not a cop. Likewise, both liberals and conservatives can support a war without engaging in it.

Yes, and he probably supports firefighters, too. But, he’s not out starting fires to give them some business which is what we did for the military in Iraq.

The LAST thing liberals want to do is question the ideological makeup of the military. 83 percent of servicemen describe themselves as moderate to conservative. Only 8 percent—8 percent—describe themselves as liberal. Secondly, it’s an intellectually defenseless argument to say that every person who supports the military must therefore join. I’m sure Tbogg supports the police, but he’s not a cop. Likewise, both liberals and conservatives can support a war without engaging in it. But as the numbers above show, conservatives compose the brunt of the armed forces. Liberal politicians don’t need to worry about young people leaving their campaigns to defend America.
