Peter Wehner at The Corner:
"For one thing, the idea that the United States should have exited Iraq after three weeks is, I think, deeply flawed. In liberating Iraq, we inherited a divided, traumatized, and collapsing nation."
Filmed two weeks before we "liberated" Iraq...
Two weeks later
AFP:
Jordan said on Tuesday that it estimated the costs of sheltering hundreds of thousands of Iraqi refugees over the past three years at more than two billion dollars, and appealed for international help.
"Hosting our Iraqi brothers depletes the infrastructure and has cost the government more than 1.6 billion dinars (2.2 billion dollars) during the past three years," Planning Minister Suheir al-Ali told visiting UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres.
"We call on the international community to help Jordan face this new economic challenge, particularly given that the country has very limited natural resources and capabilities," the official Petra news agency quoted her as saying.
According to the UNHCR, 4.2 million Iraqis have been fled their homes since the US-led invasion of 2003, with between 500,000 and 750,000 of them finding refuge in Jordan.
Hopefully a half million or so "Thank You!" cards to Peter Wehner won't get lost in the Jordanian mail...

I think the big news is that even the Jordanian Dinar is worth more than our dollar! Go team!
Peter Wehner’s comments… Whenever I hear or read things like this in the MSM, I wonder why CNN or NBC or ABC doesn’t remind it’s “news consumers” that
1) There was absolutely no reason to invade Iraq. None.
2) The claims made of WMDs, of connections with Al-Qaeda and
the 9-11 attacks, have been proven to be lies. Lies — not
misstatements, not slight exaggerations. Lies.
3) We didn’t ‘inherit’ a “divided, traumatized, and collapsing nation”;
our Sainted War Leader, his ‘administration’, and business buddies
created it. It’s been that way for 45 months.
Just sayin’.
George and Jeb always used to nap in the back of Daddy’s pick up.
What’s the problem?
I can just see those bible beaters at the pearly gates trying to justify their support for invading, then occupying, Iraq. A just God would allow them to experience their own hell.
What an asshole.
A lying, duplicitous asshole.
Basically, the entire response of the Bush administration and its supporters to criticism over their inept handling of an unnecessary war reminds me of nothing so much as childhood memories of The Family Circus, and the two ghosts one of the Keane kids blamed for everything bad that happened.
“Who faked the intelligence that led us to war?”
“Ida Know.”
“Who is responsible for the reduction of America to nothing but a thug state as bad as any we’ve ever criticized?”
“Nott Mee.”
I cried watching that first video. Those people smiling, waving, flashing the peace sign at the camera–how many of them are dead now? The happy bride and groom, the musicians, the market stall owners, the beautiful children–what are their lives like in the hell we have made of their country?
We owe the people of Iraq a debt we can never fully repay. Somehow, I feel sure that people like Peter fucking Wehner will be skipping out on his share of it.
I cried too. How many are dead, lost, suffering? Even the dog…
