There’s a place for us, you know the movie song

Just for the hell of it, and because it’s Valentine’s Day, here’s nineteen (that’s what I came up with. So sue me…) of my favorite love songs selected from, and limited to, that’s the rules, what is on my iPod.

For some it’s the singer for others, the song, the lyrics, the arrangement, or maybe a memory of that special moment when you heard it. Not surprisingly most of them have to do with lost love (with sad love songs you get Beth Orton’s I Wish I Never Saw the Sunshine, with happy love songs you get Olivia Newton-John and I Honestly Love You. Then you die and go to hell) so whatever tugs your heartstrings or inflames and stirs your naughty bits may vary:

Romeo and Juliet – Dire Straits
Mr. Harris – Aimee Mann
Untouchable Face – Ani DiFranco ("I could make you happy you know, if you weren’t already")
All I Know – Art Garfunkle
I Wish I Never Saw The Sunshine – Beth Orton
A Case of You – Joni Mitchell (or anyone who has ever recorded it)
Lose Again – Allison Krauss
Misguided Angel – The Cowboy Junkies
It’s A Motherfucker – The Eels
Alison – Elvis Costello (or Everything But the Girl version)
Everything Reminds Me of Her – Elliott Smith
I Hope That I Don’t Fall In Love With You – Tom Waits
Pacific Street
– Hem
I Envy the Wind – Lucinda Williams
We Belong Together – Rickie Lee Jones
Empty Chairs – Don McLean
Poor Side of Town – The Eels version (live with strings)
Carrying A Torch – Van Morrison
and Baby Got Back – Sir Mix-A-Lot because there is all kinds of love in the world.

We’re outta here for dinner. Go have sex or something…
