I just received a copy of Jen Trynin's Everything I'm Cracked Up To Be and even though I'm already immersed in a couple of other books, it already grabbed me from the first few pages and I'm setting everything else aside for the duration. It's an alternately smart, wickedly funny, and nightmarish personal history of what it is like to be ground up and spit out by the star-making machine.
There are a million stories like this out there, but Trynin has a real knack for a compelling narrative without an ounce of self pity.

Wow, Jen was my first-ever popstar interview all these years ago when I was interning at a now-defunct LA magazine. Was it obvious? Midway through, the looked at me and said, “You haven’t done many of these, have you?”
Cheers, Jen. Good to hear you’re moving on and telling them what for.
