just replaced my candy mac that blew a tube with a new imac. word of warning: if the power gets cut off during sleep mode, ya gots to unplug the power cord in the back then plug back in to restart computer. info you’ll find – eventually – in the little white info booky thing.

Two reasons to avoid “sleep” mode: No. 1 it wastes energy. No. 2 a new report out says that hibernate and sleep modes leave your system much more vulnerable to attack.

These days, I mainline coffee and spend my nights reading crappy basset blogs — you can’t let your guard down even for a minute or your system might be invaded and your precious bodily fluids taken away by the islamofascists.

I had PCs for years and was told to turn them off, so I always had. I think it’s different for a Mac. The guy who gave the workshop I went to at the Apple store said it takes MUCH less energy to put the computer to sleep than to turn it off and on each day and they recommend putting it to sleep. Also, I think Macs don’t have ports open to allow “attacks”, like PCs do.

I just realized that you probably used the ability to video-chat with the L&TC to get this purchase past the wifey.

Tom, get TubeSock, for $15. It lets you download and save all the YouTubey goodness, which is great for the times that they yank the stuff down because someone’s panties get all bunched up.

I’ve actually reposted stuff to YouTube that I had saved exactly for that reason.
