I have to admit that when I saw the headline "Ex-defense official takes aim over war’s run-up" the last person I expected it to be was the "stupidest fucking guy on the planet", Doug Feith, but he wants everyone to look "what they done to my war, ma":
In the first insider account of Pentagon decision-making on Iraq, one of the key architects of the war blasts former secretary of state Colin Powell, the CIA, retired Gen. Tommy R. Franks and former Iraq occupation chief L. Paul Bremer for mishandling the run-up to the invasion and the subsequent occupation of the country.
Douglas J. Feith, in a massive score-settling work, portrays an intelligence community and a State Department that repeatedly undermined plans he developed as undersecretary of defense for policy and conspired to undercut President Bush’s policies.
Personally I think that Feith is being somewhat uncharitable toward the people who were forced to build a war and occupation upon the foundation of bullshit that came out of his office. Feith came into the Pentagon with an agenda, 9/11 happened several months later, he saw an opportunity, cooked up a bunch of "facts", and, voila!, Quagmire Soufflé.
Now he’ll never have that recipe again.

Gosh. He really is a remarkably stupid person.
“Now he’ll never have that recipe again.” Bullshit. If John McCain is selected
DucePresident in November, he’ll have Doug on speed dial day one asking him to come back for a serving of steaming seconds; this time it’ll be Iran a la Crème with a small side of Syria-on-a-stick. Armageddon. Mmm…You’re so right. They never go away for long, if at all. The criminal Elliott Abrams, for example.
One of my favorite research articles EVAH would likely apply here to Dougie:
“Unskilled and unaware of it: how difficulties in recognizing one’s own incompetence lead to inflated self-assessments.” by Kruger and Dunning. Abstract at the first link, full text at the second. An excellent read.

The Bush Administration has actually vanquished the Peter Principle – each of these morons has risen far above the level of his/her incompetence.
Putting aside the stupidity of the occupation in the first place, most of the problems lay at the Vulcans feet for their incredible insistence on a rebuild modeled on the neocon vision of Reaganville.
My favorite f’rinstance is the young hitler youth hired to rebuild the Iraqi stock exchange. Before the occupation they used a chalk board and a six line phone bank. Rather than get the system back up and modernize over a period. He insisted on a complete modernized system like wall street. Four years later 5 million dollars spent and there is no exchange. And there probably wont be until the bushites are driven out.
It’s amazing that he can walk and chew gum at the same time. Come to think of it, has anyone seen him do that?
Four years later 5 million dollars spent and there is no exchange.
That is one of the many telling tales of the Iraq occupation. The young guy in charge wanted to uber-computerize the stock exchange. One major problem: no electricity! Last I heard, the big update was from blackboard and chalk to whiteboard and erasable black marker. Five million dollars just doesn’t go as far as it used to.
He is even stupider than “stupidest fucking guy on the planet”. I saw somewhere earlier that he essentially admits that the Iraq invasion was planned well before 9/11 and has laid himself open to a nice long visit at the Hague.
Nearly 900 pages of “it wasn’t my fault.” Yeah, that should be a page turner. The rats seem to be clawing a bit at each other as they jump ship. Can’t wait to see Condi and Colin’s rebuttal.
uhhhh, “Stupidest fucking guy on the planet”? Nahh, Stupidest fucking guy in the fucking Universe. Believe it…
The guy who gave him that title would also be in the running. General Franks.
I think that I would have done the honorable thing and gone with the Otter explanation: “You fucked up. You trusted us.” Then again, the AEI Executive Restroom may have standards with which I am unconcerned.
So is this where the “He said, she said, No I din’nit” phase of the collapse of the neo-con movement begins? Will Esquire Feith be prepared for the wrath that is about to come his way from Powell, Franks & Bremer? This guy IS the stupidest guy in the universe.

Wow.
A “MacArthur Park” reference?
You’re pulling out all the crappy-song stops, aren’t you?
Maybe you would prefer some Beck for Mr. DFGontheP?
It’s as if Feith and Kristol watch for each other’s ramblings and then try to out-stupid one another. I mean, for the love of Rummy, one of his main themes is we didn’t give Chalabi enough power?! Godspeed, boys, the Shorty Bus is leaving the station. Don’t forget your hockey helmets. All aboard!
Dougie was the only one of our leading patriots who lost his job and didn’t get a medal in the aftermath of the greatest war ever. That would explain his untoward criticisms.
