Oh, I could hide ‘neath the wings
Of the bluebird as she sings.

Wipe the sleep out of my eyes.

True story:
Went with a small group of guys and gals to a Third Eye Blind / Smash Mouth concert about 10 years ago (girlfriend’s choice, I swear). The relatively unknown Space Monkeys were the opening act and, of course, brought the house down. Well, my group and I were hanging in the back of the college gym away from the impromptu mosh pit in front of the stage – hey, we love rock ‘n roll as much as the next guys, but we like our personal space – when about halfway through the Smash Mouth set a few scruffy guys walk up behind us. The Space Monkeys! They were only in the states for the tour and, in fact, claimed they were unfamiliar with the other two acts and had the opportunity this night to check ‘em out. In the end, they seemed as unimpressed as we were, so we spent most of the rest of the concert chatting over the noise about California, England and our respective tastes, although honestly they spent most of it hitting on our girls. Intensely cool, nonetheless.
Had their autographs on my ticket stub, but the now long-gone ex-girlfriend confiscated it. I probably miss it the most.
And “Sugar Cane” is much better live.
