Goldfarb the Barbarian slays another "fact"

Ed Schultz calls John McCain a "warmonger" and Barrack Obama does not denounce, deplore, renounce, rend garments, bemoan, wail and gnash his teeth about it fast enough for Michael Goldfarb who compares Obama to McCain:

In late February, McCain was introduced at a rally by talk radio host Bill Cunningham. Cunningham called Obama a "hack Chicago-style Daley politician," and twice emphasized Obama's middle name, Hussein, in an all around nasty warm-up act. Immediately after the event, and with no prompting from the press, McCain apologized for Cunningham's remarks: "I take responsibility and I repudiate what he said."

Actually McCain repudiated Cunningham's remarks afterwards to the press because doing so, on stage to the same people Cunningham spoke to, would have totally harshed the whole rally vibe, but never mind that.

Worse still, Obama seems oblivious to just how offensive the attack is. To call someone a warmonger is to say that person doesn't care about the troops and the sacrifices they make. It's no different than questioning McCain's patriotism, but right now it looks like questioning McCain's patriotism will be a core element of Obama's general election strategy.

And, of course, nobody is questioning Obama's patriotism either. But never mind that also.

I don't want to get into the whole connotation/denotation cage fight, but warmonger is usually defined as:

...a person who advocates, endorses, or tries to precipitate war.

or

...one who urges or attempts to stir up war

So your mileage may vary.

Having said that, I don't think that John McCain is exactly what I would call a "warmonger". I would save 'warmonger' for someone like Goldfarb's boss, Bill Kristol, who fits both my definition as well as Goldfarbs. There you have it, post-partisan common ground.

It is for this reason that they call me The Unity Blogger.
