ahhhh … he saved the money shot for last:
“And an experienced Democratic operative e-mailed: “Finally, I think [McCain’s] going to win. Obama isn’t growing in stature. Once I thought he could be Jimmy Carter, but now he reminds me more of Michael Dukakis with the flag lapel thing and defending Wright. Plus he doesn’t have a clue how to talk to the middle class. He’s in the Stevenson reform mold out of Illinois, with a dash of Harvard disease thrown in.”
ya know, ALL of us dems talk just like that about our own … and we ALL elevate the flag lapel issue to right up there with the credit crisis, health care and national security.
criminey, Kristol, I didn’t think it was possible, but even your (ahem) “double-secret-probation-super-duper-big-kahuna Democratic operatives” are worse hacks than you are. now, that’s an accomplishment!
That locks it - Obama will win in a landslide.
Does he do requests? I mean, I’d love nothing more than for Kristol to declare in his patronizing-yet-clueless manner that I’m a total loser and will never win the lottery — bingo, baby! I’d expect the winning ticket to be in the mail before his speltjekr was done. And I don’t even play the lottery…
Reverend Wright and flag pins. Yep, that’s what the Republicans want this election to be about. Unfortunately, given our media, that’s probably what we will get.
The best thing about Kristols assholiness is it now plays out at the NYT. W00t!
I award that photo the moondancer Pulitzer,Peabody,Nobel, and Golden Globe…for life.
So most people here think the media will let their best pal McCain lose?
Have you seen him speak or campaign? A live feed of that zombie is a guaranteed win for the dems. The media can do all it wants to prop up this senile old codger, but he is fingernails on a chalkboard next to Obama. His best chance is to never speak in public again, let his steno stooges write his quotes. Never let himself in a situation where he is next to Obama live; It is the difference between life and death. And hope that enough people remember him from 1999 before he passed away.
Exactly. This is what I have been telling worried friends. Wait till the debates. Physically and verbally, the comparison is going to make moderate repubs and independents cringe. Sure, some will hold their nose and vote, but I have a feeling many will stay home, or secretly vote for Obama. Then I again, I am not the great prognosticator that Nostradumbass Bill is.
I would like to know what “experienced Democratic operative” first compares Obama to Carter, then Dukakis, then Stevenson! And one who emails Kristol with this shit. Knowing the depth of his dishonesty, I’d say that person does not exist.
Agree with the above about McCain. Another retarded lunatic, just a little less so than you-know-who. As Digby said, we just can’t take four more years of codpiece worship.
I think it was Joe Lieber-something …
Of course!
Priceless…

Kristol has been teaching at the Kennedy School since last Spring. His Harvard friends are very protective of “poor Bill” and are the kinds of Dems who would be happy to stab any candidate in the back for a favor from what they perceive as a Washington powerbroker.
I attended one of his lectures in his leadership course last year and was not impressed with him as a teacher. His subject was Rudy and he stuck to his talking points even though there were former NYC public employees in the class who might have had a lot of interesting things to say about what Rudy actually did (it was the mid-career Master’s course so the audience was made up of experienced folk).
Also saw him speak at one of the brown bag lunches at the Shorenstein Center a month or so ago. Usually I get to ask a question but my hand was rather pointedly not recognized. Before the event, the organizer of the brown bags asked me to go gently on “poor Bill.” This was the first time that had ever happened. I asked her whether she thought my questions were rude and, when she said no, told her that if he couldn’t handle me he had no business being in the public sphere.
He was prognosticating on the election and basically said “Change is hard and slow. Twas ever thus, twill ever be so.” Very blase about it all. Only once did he show his edge when another troublemaker, an actual member of the Harvard club (unlike me, just a guy from Central Square), tried to catch him up with a trick quote. Kristol got some energy and immediately pounced on one tangential point, “Well, at least you agree with me here” before avoiding the gist of the argument. Pure debater’s trickery but the only sign of life from this potato-shaped man who appears to live entirely in his own head.
gsmoke, that’s an interesting anecdote. Keep questioning that worthless asshole!
