Victor Davis Camper Van Beethoven Hanson:
It Doesn’t Quite Compute [Victor Davis Hanson]
Liberals, as are all Americans, are rightly angry over Tibet, but since a dictatorial communist China holds over $1 billion dollars in U.S.-government-backed bonds, it is unlikely that any street protesting will lead to much more than a few meaningless resolutions in Congress, akin to the Armenian genocide flap with Turkey. But in Iraq, where we do have leverage and capability, an elected government is trying to ward off fundamentalist terrorists of all stripes — and yet from the recent reaction to the Petraeus/Crocker testimonies, liberals seem eager to leave the Iraqi democrats to fend for themselves.
And they are similar because China occupies Tibet and the US occupies Iraq and… wait. No. Wait. I’ll get this. Um….
I give up.

“Liberals, as are all Americans, are rightly angry over Tibet, but since a dictatorial communist China holds over $1 billion dollars in U.S.-government-backed bonds”
*cue Dr. Evil voice*
One… BILLION dollars!
Actually, that should have been:
$One… BILLION dollars!
Yeah, Vic, piss on that Armenian genocide. Warn’t nuthin compared to a smooth Olmypiad, anyway.
What a complete douchebag. And that Darfur bullshit? Just don’t wanna hear it…
But, but, but, Bush said:
“Well, Mandela is dead, because Saddam Hussein killed all the Mandelas.”
Either Bush was lying (Never!) or the ineluctable conclusion is that the “Iraqi democrats” are merely the heads of various armed gangs, all of whom are fundamentalists, all of whom are heavily influenced by Iran and all of whom are engaged in a struggle for power rather than for democracy. Bushco is now trying to decide whether to support Al Capone, Dean O’Banion, Bugs Moran or Earl “Hymie” Weiss.
You left out the Corleones.
“Tell al-Sadr it was just business.”
How the hell did VDCVBH even get into college? With illogic like that, his verbal SAT scores must have been atrocious.
…given the body of work by VDH and Thomas Sowell, I have become convinced that the Hoover Institution must actually be primarily involved with furthering the interests of the international floor care cabal. This ‘domestic/international policy’ thing has just got to be some innocent hobby…
It’s like they’re not even trying to make sense anymore.
That statement implies that they used to try and make sense. I dispute that contention.
Last time I looked it was $300 BILLION in Treasury notes. VDH has edited the $1 Billion figure to “a substantial investment”.
Victor,
The “elected?” government in Iraq is not warding off shit.
Thanks for that research. When I saw 1 Billion, my response was incredulity or WTF. Not sure which. But, I knew I hadn’t paid it down.
A billion dollars?
Peanuts. We piss away that much in Iraq twice a week. Maybe he means a Trillion? Or a Brazillion?
vat da hell kine name is Viktor anyway? das he have manifesto to grind?
clockwork is correct. Someone must have pointed out to Victor that China really holds $321 billion, or about 15% of the $2.3 trillion we currently owe to foreigners. He was only off by $320 billion, but I think that’s because he meant to say $1 billion in 4th century B.C. Peloponnesian War era dollars.
