Well, they’ve got their narrative. Obama is elitist and out of touch with “regular people” (Tweety’s favorite term). Blacks are not regular people to them, never have been. When Spitzer was running for governor, he made a reference to the Southern Tier (SW NY state) as “Appalachia.” The wingnut outrage machine went crazy. When, in fact, both literally and figuratively, it is. And the context wasn’t, you know, “ha ha fuck you crackers,” it was “We need to do more to help this region.”
It seems like that was the context of Obama’s comments too, but of course the gotcha press couldn’t give a rat’s patoot about context. Too nuanced you know, and they simply no longer do nuance.
