Assuming for the moment that Barack Obama is going to end up with the Democratic nomination (providing he doesn't alienate anymore important demographic groups like the People Who Think Two and A Half Men Is Fucking Hilarious or the Chicken Patty and Honey On Krispy Creme Doughnut Bun crowd) I heartily agree with Lawrence O'Donnell's suggestion of Wesley Clark as a running mate. Selecting someone from the Hillary camp is smart politics.
Spare me the Vilsacks and Bayhs and fossilized Sam Nunns. I want someone who is smart and tough and won't take shit when the media lapdogs start yapping.
Okay. Now everyone go crazy in comments.

WWWARRRRGHHHHH!!!!!
EEEEK eek a bugga bugga!
ummm…
sorry about that…
What was it I was supposed to go crazy over? The man is clearly qualified.
I mean, Madonna endorsed him, right?
But anyhoo, I agree, I think it would be genius.
I used to agree, but Clark’s cut commercials with other generals saying how Clinton is the better candidate. I don’t think it helps to bring on a veep who has youtube videos saying how little he thinks of Obama.
I think Obama will need the most popular person in America as his running mate.
Unfortunately, that appears to be Miley Cyrus. So maybe not.
That would be fine with me.
If he picked that ass Bayh, I would probably crawl under the bed for a week. It wouldn’t be a Lieberman-level deal killer, but it would really, really hurt.
Is Sam Nunn still alive?
*INCOMING DOROTHY PARKER PARAPHRASE*
How can they tell?
I think he would be a great choice
sorry it’s late, I cant bring teh KA-RAZY
He just needs someone trustworthy in case he gets whacked.
Bite your tongue!
You’re right, of course…
‘The first echo occurred today on Meet The Press when Bob Shrum said Barack Obama will pick someone with a military background “and I think Wes Clark might be it.”‘
Isn’t Bob Shrum wrong about everything ?
Just asking.
Those electric bicycles are looking pretty good right now.
Miley Cyrus would be a huge improvement over Dick Cheney.
George Clooney’s Q rating kicks Miley Cyrus’ little white ass. Plus, if Obama and Ms. Montana ever appeared next to each other and you’d be putting together a Republican attack ad with the title “Where da white women at?”
I’d love clark. Please don’t let it be bayh. At least we can be pretty sure it won’t be powell!
aimai
Hmmm, if Shrum’s for it, we should be agin’ it.
Military experience?
Zinni? Bingaman? General Zog?
Your idea is brilliant mainly because I thought of it too. I always thought he was very effective in countering the bullshit about AQ, Iraq, etc.
Miley Cyrus is not that popular. It’s her friend Hanna Montana.
American political discourse in a nutshell.
George Clooney is great. Usually, as a denizen of California, I can’t support an actor for elective office on general principle. But Clooney is a better actor than either Reagan or Ahnuld, so I could be persuaded. (I doubt he could, though…)
O’Reilly The Dominator…
That kinky boy…
How about Jim Webb
Boss…boss…de blogroll…it’s…
(and when I click on the ‘about Tbogg’ link it even says something about you, albeit that you want me to stay away. Now if you could just do something about what a pain it is to log in…)
In other news, Wesley Clark my personal choice in ‘04 for VP? Yeah that would be nice.
Let’s go the other direction:
Kucinich? Feingold? Oprah?
If Obama is elected president, any of those choices would ensure his survival. No wingnut would dare harm Obama, since the veep would be worse (in their view)!
In my fantasty world, when O’Reilly said “Iran wants to DEE-STROY US@!”, Clark would have reached across the table and punched him for general hackery and dumb-assery.
I’ve finally been forced to google Miley Cyrus, thanks so much. Imagine my surprise upon finding out that’s his *daughter*.
Two and a half men is funny as hell you elitist fuckwad.
I’d be dubious of a Senatorial pick. Look for that “fill the holes in one person’s resume” strategy. Guessing here that a governor is a good choice. All that executive experience people keep harping on.
Having considered that and still wondering about the fellow Senator pick, it’d be a good idea to run the list through the “can we put another reliable progressive Dem in the old Senate slot” analyzer before we make a choice.
Also, as VP’s tend to be the “attack dog” person, saying things that maybe the Top Choice doesn’t want, you don’t want a makey-nice milquetoast either. Hmmmm…
Clark fits the bill particularly well based on these criteria, but his commercials championing Hillary seems a no-go. Likewise, my guy, Ted Strickland. Hmmmm…
