Joe Lieberman on Barack Obama:
NAPITALIANO: Hey Sen. Lieberman, you know Barack Obama, is he a Marxist as Bill Kristol says might be the case in today’s New York Times? Is he an elitist like your colleague Hillary Clinton says he is?
LIEBERMAN: Well, you know, I must say that’s a good question. I know him now for a little more than three years since he came into the Senate and he’s obviously very smart and he’s a good guy. I will tell ya that during this campaign, I’ve learned some things about him, about the kind of environment from which he came ideologically. And I wouldn’t…I’d hesitate to say he’s a Marxist, but he’s got some positions that are far to the left of me and I think mainstream America.
Back in 2006 when Lieberman was on the ropes with the Democratic party:
The New York Times reports that Joe Lieberman did not command the attention or respect of his audience at a fundraising event in Connecticut Thursday night.
Three times on Thursday night, Senator Joseph I. Lieberman asked the crowd of 1,700 for quiet during his remarks at the state Democrats’ annual Jefferson Jackson Bailey fund-raising dinner. "Shhh," he told the guests. But rather than interrupting him with applause, many were ignoring him, having struck up conversations after finishing their chicken.
The inattentiveness — as well as the scattered boos amid the supportive calls of "Joe" that welcomed Mr. Lieberman to the podium — convinced some that the three-term senator, criticized for months because of his continued support for the war in Iraq, may be vulnerable in the primary challenge he faces.
Who came to his rescue? Sen. Barak Obama, with a ringing endorsement.
"I know that some in the party have differences with Joe," Senator Obama said, all but silencing the crowd. "I’m going to go ahead and say it. It’s the elephant in the room. And Joe and I don’t agree on everything. But what I know is, Joe Lieberman’s a man with a good heart, with a keen intellect, who cares about the working families of America."
Then, with applause beginning to build, he finished the thought: "I am absolutely certain that Connecticut’s going to have the good sense to send Joe Lieberman back to the United States Senate." That time, people cheered loudly.
Like the story of the scorpion and the turtle, it’s in Joe Lieberman’s nature to be a back-stabber.
May he drown in a river of irrelevancy in the next administration.

“This only goes to prove that you’re the leading asshole in the
statenation.”If the Democrats get 59 Senate seats, can they use that to break a filibuster with the Vice-President? If they get 58 seats, Lieberman becomes irrelevant. Only if they get 59 or 60 will he be relevant.
As political opportunism goes, his position doesn’t seem to make sense. He’s not getting a Veep nod from McCain, so that’s not it. Maybe he wants out of the Senate and a job somewhere in McCain’s administration that will lead to an ambassadorship to Israel or something. I just don’t know. Is he Sec of State material? What is his experience other than Senator Nanny Nag-a-lot and War Supporter? But whatever it is, he’s not looking like anything other than just another wingnut Iraq-minded holdout.
If Obama wins, expect to hear lots about some of the wonderful accomplishments of the junior Senator from Connecticut.
Meanwhile, over at a Peak Oil forum where I’ve always found Smart People, they’re going all “Say, maybe that Hussein Osama fella is an elite snob”:
Somewhere, a media exec pours himself some $50.00 scotch and chuckles.
Howard Beale:
This week is BitterGate; before that TarmacGate and WrightGate. Next week? Well…. you just gotta stay tuned.
Not only is he six months from getting tossed on his ass by the dems, I doubt the goopers will have much use for the aged whore once they’ve used him through the election cycle.
I agree. Joe would make a mediocre Republican, just as he has been an abysmal Democrat. His only value to the GOP in general, and McCain in particular, is as a Judas goat. With his support, their ridiculous policies can be presented as “bipartisan.”
Once he is kicked to the curb, he will be lost in the sea of Repbulican mediocrity.
And I’m supposed to be enthusiastic about Obama’s judgment?
Irrelevancy? If Clinton is the nominee, he has a shot at Veep. Secretary of State at the very least.
Kapo Joe strikes again. Quelle douche.
Happy and proud to say that I’ve hated that son of a bitch since his initial election in 1988.
Funny thing about being a traitor is that after you’ve shifted to the other side, all the people you’ve joined up with still see you as nothing but a filthy traitor.
And that’s my big problem with Sen Obama. That and his bipartinship bullshit.
I’d just like to second the eloquent statement made by
Harriet JohnsonDennis.
