We may not like it, but issues like Jeremiah Wright, flag lapels and the Tuzla airport will be important in the fall. Remember how George H.W. Bush toured flag factories to expose Michael Dukakis. It’s legitimate to see how the candidates will respond to these sorts of symbolic issues.

NO BOBO, those are not legitimate issues! Last night’s debate served one purpose — it destroyed any credibility that Hillary, Charlie and George had left. They are dead to me. Brooks achieved idiot status long ago.

Brooks is stuck in the 90s, when the economy was good, our soldiers weren’t getting killed in pointless wars, and people could afford the luxury of wondering if Clinton was getting blowjobs. Now we are grappling with serious issues, and making the candidates uncomfortable is not the issue. They would be uncomfortable if we asked when they lost their virginity, but grown-ups know the stakes are more important. That’s why the Rev. Wright flap, the McCain recipe debacle, and the bitter remark are dead. The lapel pin business will die right along with them.

Good point, Capt’n. Every election year I get excited about politics, and then I meet someone who hasn’t even thought about it yet and my optimism level drops a bit lower with each experience. If you can’t see the difference between McSame and either democrat, then you have the same level of selfawareness as a box of rocks.

I’m sorry, but after surveying the general tone of responses to last night’s debate, the following must be said:

1) What the hell did you expect? Look at the crap atop the TV ratings heap, and smell the rich, heady aroma of stupidity;
2) Anyone who hasn’t made up their mind yet should probably have their voting rights suspended.
