So what’s pissing off the Malkinistas today? I’m glad you asked:
It’s the one war the Left and the media do want to win: The “war on global warming.”
And they’ll appropriate and trivialize any real war imagery they please in pursuit of eco-propaganda–good taste and respect for veterans be damned!
Yes, there are some people who are deeply and profoundly offended that Time co-opted the raising of the flag atop Mount Suribachi. As one of her commenters put it:
This act of disrespect to the USMC and the veterans that went through the living hell of Iwo Jima has my blood boiling and jaw clenched this morning. Thanks for sharing this latest outrage by the MSM in their pursuit of a yet to be proven scientific theory as the hottest and hip new religion on the planet.
You really have to wonder what is wrong with these people that their rage richters are constantly cranked up to 11. These are the kind of people you read about whose crushed lifeless bodies are found underneath capsized vending machines all because they went DefCon 1 when their Zagnut refused to fall. I mean, if this guy ever gets a gander at Canned Heat’s Future Blues, what is going to stop him from climbing a clock tower and thinning out the neighborhood with a high-powered rifle?

one wonders how they feel about mrs vader’s err cheney’s book cover.

But Scooter! It’s OK for Republicans to do that!
I ran across this yesterday at a message board where lots of wingnuts hang out (you’d think most backpackers would be liberals, but apparently not; go figure). To paraphrase myself: the right is the biggest bunch of whiny-ass crybabies in the history of America.
LMFAO !!
The expression on Malkin’s face dovetails nicely with the strip
AUTHOR OF THE BOOK “UNHINGED”.
She most certainly is.
And yet in the very same post she points to an editorial cartoon that uses Iwo Jima imagery to call Democrats unpatriotic cowards “a correct use” of the image.
Can partisan bullshit be this transparent?
While the wingers’ jaws are clenching with rage over a picture, a new report from Rand states that approximately 300,000 veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars suffer from PTSD and/or deep depression. Another 320,000 may suffer from TBI (Traumatic Brain Injury) from IED explosions.
I’m sure that the “support the troops” people are all over this – aren’t they?
Talk about “Goin’ Up the Country”…
Somewhat off-topic: Where did Time get a 15-foot-long carrot to use in that picture?
They’re not going to like what Andres Serrano did with it.
Totally off-topic: Here’s Don Surber on the latest Democratic poll from Gallup.
Old Chipmunk Cheeks is within striking distance, again, of Jug Ears.
Er, isn’t Don Surber, as you’ve noted many times, the last guy on Erath who should be mocking people for their looks?
Or on Earth, for that matter.
“…… and I can only hope that tomorrow will be an even better day than today.”
Of course………. this can only hurt the Democrats in November.
I think Malkin is nothing more than a hedgenettle.
Our local Honda dealership here in Honolulu is having a “Support-the-Troops” sale this week. Part of the newspaper advertising pitch is a cartoon rendering of the iconic image of the flag-raising on Mt. Surabachi.
Funny, nobody seems aware of the irony of using the bloody victory over Imperial Japanese forces on Iwo Jima to pitch Japanese cars to an American public. Nor do they see this as odd occurring just down the road from Pearl Harbor. Last year there were similar ads, though, that did draw the ire of some local military vets who considered it a mixing of the sacred with the profane. Apparently, their objections went unheeded. Gotta move those Civics and Accords!
Using your imagery from a few days ago, Mr. TBogg, how tight do you think Malkin’s sphincter will be clenched when she hears about this?
More sphincter clenching and less jaw clenching would make Malkin even more scary.
Okay, unless The Troops have some planet somewhere they’re all going to evacuate to once ours becomes uninhabitable, I would suggest that this is their battle too and therefore nobody’s co-opting anyone’s sacred imagery. We’re all in this together, including the troops.
“Ooo-eee, ooh-ah-ah, ding-dang-Macalala-la-la-ding-dang,
Ooo-eee, ohh-ah-ah, ding-dang Macalala-la-la-ding-ding-dong…”
–Michelle M. Malkin’s official hyper-patriotic blog anthem, as might be
presented by Alvin and the Chipmunks
Oh course, NONE of these whiny, pearl-clutching, shite-bags got their dander up about the RENAMING of Iwo-Jima by the Conservative right wing of the Japanese government.
No, they have to blame others for their false bravado and school yard bully tactics. Maybe if they could get up off their piss-stained rear legs and stand up for once in their lives… oh, wait, they can’t move without corporate handouts.
Nevermind.
isn’t Don Surber, as you’ve noted many times, the last guy on Earth who should be mocking people for their looks?
Don’t sell old Don short. Earth and most of the galaxy! Many space aliens–even Gilbert Gottfried–look like Matt Damon next to Don.
Oh for fucking god’s sake. These people need to get a grip on their sphincters. So Time seized on an iconic image of triumph through adversity. Actually seems more of a tribute to the veterans of Iwo Jima than reverse. For what its worth, my father served on Iwo Jima and was wounded there. He also personally knew three of the guys who raised the first flag. I do not think this would have upset him particularly and he was a Republican.
The fact that the real monument is a notorious rendezvous point for alternative affairs would really wind up the little mink.
i’m gonna go ahead and speculate that the jaws of the majority of Malkin’s readers are permanently clenched.
someone should do a study to determine the strength of the correlation between TMJ and wingnutism.
Look, you’d be pissed too if your maiden name sounded like a Pachinko machine in full play.
Malkin’s commenters are the same folks who thought Ed Anger was a real person and wrote letters to the editor agreeing with him.
I’m sure Navy Corpsman John “Doc” Bradley would have been overjoyed with the Malkin’s dismissal of his service, considering the fact that she ascribed the flag raising to the USMC and no one else.
We can all only hope that her jaw-clenching is tetanic and never releases so she can never open her mouth again.
If only tetanic clenching affected the fingers…
Just gotta make a nomination for brilliant phrasing:
“You really have to wonder what is wrong with these people that their rage richters are constantly cranked up to 11. These are the kind of people you read about whose crushed lifeless bodies are found underneath capsized vending machines all because they went DefCon 1 when their Zagnut refused to fall.”
Really really good, Mr. TB, even if nobody but me gives you a prize.
Strange… yet where was the outrage at the republican convention in 04 when people made the purple heart band-aid?
I love pointing out to the morans that liberals won two world wars while conservatives are currently losing two wars to third world countries.
Only an educated liberal would know that what offends the Malkinistas so much is actually the second raising of the flag on Suribachi. But then they love their photo-op in chief too, so wtf do I know.
