Have I ever mentioned how much I love Audra McDonald?
She also does a beautiful version of Stephen Sondheim’s Not A Day Goes By (from Merrily We Roll Along) but the YouTube version isn’t very high quality, so here’s Bernadette Peter’s version… just because it’s my favorite Sondheim.

Last weekend, I traveled to my son’s college to see a play that he was lighting. Turns out it was Sondheim’s “Company”, with which I was totally unfamiliar. What a fabulous experience; “Company” may now be my favorite Sondheim.
The only downside: for a solid week I’ve had
“Where ya goin?”
“Barcelona”
lodged in my brain.
And as for Bernadette? Woof….
Either Mrs. TBogg has hijacked the account or TBogg is the gaiiest gaidude in all of gaiosity.
Maybe a drum solo could have butched them up a bit.
Ohhh, I had such a crush on Bernadette Peters as a young lad. And then I discovered boys.
Pretty highclass for the blogsphere. What’s gay about traditional music by women? Now Liberace would make me wonder.
My favorte Sondheim is The Ladies Who Lunch. Brutally funny.
And he co wrote (with Anthony “Norman Bates, not FRC asshole” Perkins) The Last of Sheila, a very fun mystery movie with a great cast. And he’s pals with Tom Lehrer. So an all-around winner, then.
Great picks, Tbogg. What makes those women such fantastic artists, besides glorious voices, is that one believes every word.
May I say, Sondheim is the hardest fucking composer to perform. Bar none. Love him.
What a fucking lame song to illustrate Ms. McDonald’s obvious talents.
What’s next, “Send in the Clowns?”
Don’t bother…
Didn’t see your Kathryn Jean Lopez post.
