If you don’t remember the sixties, you are probably a Republican.
The Corner’s resident idiot windbag, Lisa Shiffren:
Dylan Does Obama [Lisa Schiffren]
I found this brilliant riff on Bob Dylan’s Memphis Blues — The Obama Variations — at the Althouse blog. She knew she had to share it. But she felt compelled to apologize for sounding anti-Obama, and pointed out that she considered him first in the flawed field. Please, Ann, rethink that, based on your own observations.
For my part, I hope the RNC — or some loaded 527 — has the wit to hire this guy to do campaign ads. One funny Dylanesque parody of Obama is worth a thousand thoughtful conservative arguments. It’s past time to reach out to all those rock’n’ roll Republicans. But I am dating myself here….
To start with the obvious: it’s the wrong fucking song, horribly done, dull as shit, too slow, filmed poorly, painful to watch, and not even within smelling distance of mildly clever. Parody only works when you understand the source material or, least, have a passing acquaintance.
Fail.
You know "Rock’n’ roll Republicans" really make me miss South Park Republicans. At least they knew what they were jerking off to.
Sorry Lisa, You’re an idiot, babe. It’s a wonder that you still know how to breathe.

You’re an idiot, babe. It’s a wonder that you still know how to breathe. This has been one of my favorite bits of descriptive prose since the first time I heard it a few decades ago. It applies extra well in this case.
After all, so many rock songs are inherently conservative!
Even if it was good it would be wasted on the terminally retarded goopers. Given the choice they will always take the Pat Boone version over the Little Richard.
Next up: Public Enemy’s “Fear of a Black Planet” as performed by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
All snark aside, if you missed Bill Moyers’ interview with Rev. Jeremiah Wright, do yourself a favor: go and watch it online. Wright is, of course, the opposite of how he’s portrayed by asshats like Sean Hannity. He’s thoughtful, serious, and it’s hard to argue with anything he says. Trust me; don’t miss it.
The guy in the shades holding the cards looks like a cabbie who isn’t exactly sure he left the meter running.
The former critic of SNL said it best: Teddible… simply ohhhful>
That is indeed terribly bad. Where is Leonard Pinth-Garnell when we need him?
I simply cannot spell what I am thinking.
Lisa, you don’t know what a drag it is to read you.
I would be willing to bet that for all of our hipster snark here trashing her, Lisa has just managed to cause KLo to be more suspicious of her with that R n’R Repuke thing.
Well, that and the fact that she keeps buying up all of the Twinkees™ out of the hall machine before Kitka can get to the office.
Over at Althouse’s posting of this video, not one – not one! – of those dunces pointed out that this was a satire of the wrong song, but within 4 or 5 posts it turned into being about the glorious brilliance of AA.
A shocking development, I know.
What really makes it is the smug aren’t-I-clever expression on that guy’s face. Bob Dylan is a millionaire, widely hailed as a genius and not an especially nice person, but I’ve never, ever seen him with a facial expression like that.
Poorly conceived, but what choice did they have? “Obama” rhymes with “Oh, mama!” which determined their choice of songs. The video followed because it could be filmed cheaply, not because it was appropriate.
For a far, far better parody, see Bob Roberts, starring Tim Robbins (and a very young and funny Jack Black!)
Once I hear a thoughtful conservative argument, I’ll let you know whether I agree with that.
Well, you walk into the room
Like a camel and then you frown
You put your eyes in your pocket
And your nose on the ground
There ought to be a law
Against you comin’ around
You should be made
To wear earphones
Because something is happening here
But you don’t know what it is
Do you, Ms. Shiffren?
I can’t get past: it’s the wrong fucking song. That says it all.
