T- Poi Dog’s version of Roky Erickson’s “I Just Had To Tell You,” is pretty sweet.

It’s okay, but there’s much better stuff on that CD. Sister Double Happiness’ cover of Two Headed Dog? The Judybats doing She Lives (in a Time of Her Own)? Even Thin White Rope’s camped-out (but really no campier than the original) Burn the Flames is pretty great.

I really do wish that there was such a thing as a “Don’t Playlist” that would keep certain songs from coming up at random.

Two words: smart playlists. For a while, I was using a smart playlist in which frequency of play depended on the song’s rating (# of stars). I set up a playlist for each rating, e.g., “Rating > 1 star or last played > 6 months ago”, “Rating >2 stars or last played > 3 months ago”, etc; then created a master playlist that was the intersection set of those playlists.

Or you could just check the box in the playlist edit screen that says ‘play only checked songs’ and uncheck the songs you don’t want to play. But that’s not as much fun.
