I want Hagee to have free rein. He’s got a time limit of a few minutes worth of spouting off all that Book of Revelations gibberish, and I’ve got $20 bucks that says if he goes a couple of minutes over in one of these rants, he’ll start foaming at the mouth, speaking in tongues, and then he’ll pull a large North American pit viper out of a Purina feed sack, for piety-attesting purposes.

You GO, John! In fact, BOTH Johns. :o)

They cherrypick. The bible is an Anthology, for chhrissakes. Written by people with Agendas FOR people with Agendas. Whatever comfort religion gave me as a child has been replaced by horror.

My fundie cousin-in-law has indoctrinated his children, to the extent that they entertained us one christmas with a recitation of ‘all catholics are satan and they will go to hell’.( THEY HAVE COUSINS AND AUNTS AND UNCLES WHO ARE CATHOLIC AND JEWISH). We never heard what they think of jews, as we left. These were 7 and 8 year old children. Horrors.

Wobblybits: These are AUTHORITARIANS. They don’t question Authority. They LOVE Authority. It gives them a security blankie. See http://home.cc.umanitoba.ca/~altemey/. Bob Altemeyer has got their number.
We can only hope they start to think about what “Daddy” is telling them. It seems so from the polite response to the Iran/satan whoop-de-do.

Ignorance of church history by these wingnuts stuns me sometimes. I am “just” a layperson who has done my own research but …perhaps this wing nut should read “The Apostolic Fathers” sometime, the books that were “rejected” by the Nicene Council in the 4th century. Anybody can read them online. Also the newly translated “Gospel of Mary” and Elaine Pagel’s “The Gnostic Gospels”.

Hagee would find a whole different Jesus in these gospels than Revelations. The 4th century Nicene Council had some agendas when they chose the books of the New Testament that were not so “godly”. For instance, in order to have more control over church members, they rejected the works of the third pope, Polycarp who believed in reincarnation. They felt that if Christians actually accepted reincarnation as part of their theology, the Church could not cause enough terror to condemn to hell forever any of their congregation’s “sins” and control congregation members for their own needs. One of the Apostolic books, contains the story of Polycarp, who was a dear friend of the Apostle Peter. Think of his name in Greek …”poly” = “many” and “carp” = “bodys”. Again there are letters between Polycarp and Peter that anyone can read on the Internet. Polycarp was martyred by being burnt at the stake. The accounts of his death were that, instead of the smell of burning flesh, the aroma of baking bread spread throughout the city …

The point I am making here is that Hagee is doing just as Jesus’ leaders did in his time, they took the times they lived in and did not listen to the kernal of their own teachings. The early church was into love, community, and learning to live together (oh and btw, as Elaine Pagels points out, many of them accepted women as priests). They took to heart the teachings of Jesus who taught that Love was the greatest command one could dedicate their lives learning. One of his most shocking and disturbing teachings was to accept women as equals instead of just being man’s baby machine and work horse (see the Gospel of Mary and the Gnostic Gospels”).

Google some of these things sometime, if you are curious. I would LOVE a conversation about this …

My 2 cents

Cat In Seattle < ---not much more than a high school education, but always curious and can actually READ something more than the enigmatic Bible, because it is not understandable unless you put the writings in historical context

Thanks for the Right Wing Authoritarian traits index. I was working up to that, by suggesting that every time Haggee says “Liberal” or “Homosexual” or “Amedinajad”or “Secularists” you mentally substitute “Jew”. What does that remind us of?

(Hint: google ‘Godwin’s Law’).

Judging by the mileage Haggee and others get from the Book of Revelations, it might be one of the books of the Bible that was written by Satan.

i’ve never had a bad word to say about HRC, but after the factor interview, i just gotta say, she crossed a major line. the sole reason she went on there was to say, yet again, this time to the red meat crowd that she would have left wrights congregation.

she says obama used “bad judgement” by staying there. who the fuck is she to make that assertion? what does it mean anyway? bad judgement because he should have known he was going to run for office someday, and he would be subject to racially motivated attacks?

what if someone should ask obama if staying in a marriage for 30+ years with someone who repeatedly cheats on you with multiple women in a very public and humiliating manner reflects badly on their judgement, or character? The politically correct answer, that Obama would give, is that it is a personal decision and it would be wrong and unfair to judge someone for it. A personal matter, just like their faith, choice of church and pastor.

On O’reilly no less. She is beyond repair.

The Revelation of John the Divine occurred 77+/- years after the death of Jeebus.

If Jeebus did come back and did proclaim the Revelation it should be all over and done with.

Because it should already have happened.

I remember something about some of you who stand here today shall witness my return.

Or something.

And that was from a Gospel. Luke, I think.

Hagee. Yeah, right!

OT for a serious question. Is there any way to help those citizens who don’t have photo IDs to get them in time for election? A sizeable percentage (10+) of young people and seniors have never had a need to get a driver’s license, passport, etc. The same for city and town renters who can use public transportation. Would DMV or some other agency be able to assist - just to provide photo ID cards? Just curious. This is bothering me. Dem. minority groups (Latinos, African Americans and others) are very much affected.
