From Marc Ambinder:
A diverse bunch of Republican online gurus have formed a new blog and activist platform they hope will be find the answer to what comes next for a party that lags behind the Democrats in virtually every online metric.
It's caled(sic) "The Next Right."
The founders are:
Jon Henke, a former new media coordinator for George Allen's Senate campaign, Fred Thompson's presidential campaign and the new media adviser to Senate Republicans;
Patrick Ruffini, the RNC's eCampaign director in 2006, a consultant for Rudy Giuliani's presidential campaign, and a consultant in private practice;
And Soren Dayton, a longtime Republican activist with particular roots in the College and Young Republican worlds. Until he decided to freelance on his own blog, he worked the political desk for John McCain's presidential campaign. He has also consulted for international democracy movements.
"What we're hoping to do with this new online community is give conservatives and libertarians a fertile space to hash out the answer," Dayton said. "Only when people have a stake in a vision for the future of the party, one that they've helped define, will we see a resurgence in grassroots activism."
The Next Right is not a space for punditry; it's more about building critical mass around the idea that, in Dayton's words, " regular people acting together online can change the direction of the party." Call it a MyDD for the next generation of Republicans.
Wait. I thought that was what Red State (Conservative News and Community)...no, wait... The Victory Caucus was all about? Jesus, conservatives have more floundering "activist" blogs littering teh internets than Josh Trevino.
I'm guessing that Ambinder has a somewhat different definition of "diversity" when the group includes:
- Ruffini who "served as eCampaign Director at the Republican National Committee, overseeing the Party’s online strategy for the 2006 election cycle." Fail.
- Dayton, described as a "a low-level aide in the political department" of John McCain who was shit canned by the campaign. Fail.
- And Henke who was "... a former new media coordinator for George Allen's Senate campaign, Fred Thompson's presidential campaign and the new media adviser to Senate Republicans". Epic Fail. Fail. Fail.
...as their site points out:
The Next Right is the place for wired activists to build a new Republican Party and conservative movement.
...which kind of looks like they're already waving the white flag before the November 2008 ballots have even been printed.
Failure truly is a great teacher...

“…a fertile space to hash out the answer…” Fertile, indeed. With the amount of BS the Red State posse tend to spread around, it’ll be fertile like a Kansas cornfield before long. The stench (“Eau du GOP”) is sure to attract just their particular crowd of swine.
And Soren Dayton, a longtime Republican activist with particular roots in the College and Young Republican worlds.
Is that another way of saying he still lives with his parents?
The Next Right Is For Quitters.
Lucy. Football. Charlie Brown.
How many times can you use the same trick?
How about doing the bragging AFTER the accomplishment?
Oh yeah. There aren’t any accomplishments.
Bummer dude.
Face it, gentlemen. Mr. Reagan is gone and he ain’t coming back no matter how many “new” conservative movements you start.
Isn’t a ‘new’ conservative movement a contradiction in terms?
Epic Fail.
“Wired” activists. hah!
These dead beats are going to the word ‘fail’ a new meaning.
Typical top-down reactionary thinking. “It’s 2008! Go start a blog! All the kids have blogs!”
Epic Fail with Fail Sauce.
We order you to be spontaneous!
After November maybe they can pick up three more geniuses and have enough for pallbearers for the Republican Party.
Soren Dayton… has also consulted for international democracy movements.
Shorter Soren Dayton “international democracy consulting”: Purple fingers! Purple Fingers! Hot Lebanese chics! Purple fingers! All you other wogs better hop to it, though.
Future “Next Right” press release for February 24, 2009.
Joining the Next Right today is George W. Bush. He has failed at education, baseball, running oil companies, riding bikes, eating pretzels, responsible drinking, and has ruined not only his own country, but large swathes of the world. We feel he is the kind of wired activist that can put Next Failure…I mean Next Right… on top. And he works hard cuz’ it’s hard work.
Anybody know who’s funding this little venture? Should we guess?
The square peg will never fit in the round hole. The Rethugs are all top-down organizations. The ones on top do the ordering. If someone from the bottom suggested an original idea, they would no longer be in that group. They are incapable of having any “grassroot” organizations. It’s ALL astroturf.
Just what I was thinking, TheRealityBasedDave. But it’s so cute when authoritarians pretend to have a groundswell of bold, independent-minded support.
Silly Republicans. They spelled “The Next Reich” incorrectly.
