Republicans on their own two yard line, 45 seconds left in the game. Bush takes the snap, hands off to McCain. The rest of the offense moves to the sidelines to avoid getting hit, leaving Bush alone. Apparently, by not blocking, they’re giving McCain plenty of running room to distance himself. It’s an unusual game plan. . . looks like they’re depending on the Democrats to do nothing on defense.

“No one could have anticipated” that the Republicans’ Golden Oldies; smear tactics, guilt-by-association, “he’s a liberal,” would fail them after years of piss-poor-bordering-on-insane governance. They are now officially terrified that they won’t be able to distract voters with bullshit social issues in the general election.

Third, don’t write off black voters. Both their turnout and the margin of their vote for Democrats will increase with Obama at the top of the ticket, but Republicans can cut their losses if they make their case to them.
