Children of the 30’s had the unique position of being too young for WWII and Korea but too old for Vietnam. And yet they are the most blowhardedly patriotic generation up to the current too young for Vietnam generation. Amazing how those who never went know so much more about war than those of us who did.

But about a third of the graduating students draped in the school’s green and black robes turned their backs to her, along with some faculty members sitting on the stage behind her. Many family members in the audience also took part. Three faculty members made the extra point of walking off the stage and then turning their backs from the audience.

So she got discommendated? Sweeeet. Clearly, there is much that we can learn from our Klingon brothers.

The Independent is the best major English-language newspaper in the world.

Fisk is awesome, the rest of the editorial staff is hardcore for the truth and the sport coverage is unparalleled in a quality daily.

They even have space for the opinion of a pissant expatriate American doctor on the foolishness of wild-eyed panic reporting on a disease none of us died from…

Yeah, I think I was reading everything too fast. But someone with such profound courage, showing up on the front line and seriously reporting. I am ashamed at how glazed over my eyes get trying to fathom mid-Eastern politics and history. Even our history. But Jefferson has a quote about the price of freedom being eternal vigilance.

Thanks for turning me on to Robert Fisk and the Independent. Courage is contagious, and reading about those on the front line physically AND intellectually and ethically is empowering.
