The Politico points out that, when it comes to Republican nominees in the upcoming election, only the future looks black:
Just a few years after the Republican Party launched a highly publicized diversity effort, the GOP is heading into the 2008 election without a single minority candidate with a plausible chance of winning a campaign for the House, the Senate or governor.
At a time when Democrats are poised to knock down a historic racial barrier with their presidential nominee, the GOP is fielding only a handful of minority candidates for Congress or statehouses — none of whom seem to have a prayer of victory.
At the start of the Bush years, the Republican National Committee — in tandem with the White House — vowed to usher in a new era of GOP minority outreach. As George W. Bush winds down his presidency, Republicans are now on the verge of going six — and probably more — years without an African-American governor, senator or House member.
That’s the longest such streak since the 1980s.
Macranger rides to the rescue:
I guess that two black Secretary of States, and the most ethnically diverse White House in History means squat. The Obama Apologetic also fails to mention the 1994 banner year for blacks running for office on for the GOP.
…or, more to the point: 94, bitchez! boo-yah! Having to harken back fourteen years ago to 1994 is kind of sad, almost like belting out "You forgot Poland!"
But we’re talking about "plausible chances of winning" (Then we can dig it!) so mac-daddy-r adds:
Or the fact that this in the 22nd Congressional District we have LTC (R) Allen White, an african american, is running.
Um, that would be Allen West. Whatever, at least he’s not white… or White.

…Wherein Macringer offers “GOP diversity” as the operative definition of “squat”.
which has to characterized, in my opinion, as a stunningly successful effort.
You don’t get much more diverse than Larry Craig, Mark Foley, that barebacking crossdresser in Washinton State, and the ever-famous Alabama scuba diver.
Relieved of his command because he was unfit for leadership, eh. He’s perfect for the GOP.
They still have Alan Keyes dont they? He’s a Republican Negro.
They have that Walter Williams guy and Shelby Steele. Don’t forget about Juan williams. He can’t stand that Barack Obama. They have plenty of Negroes to talk about black people the way white conservatives like to hear it.
You want them to take over the whole Republican Party or something?
Mac’s mind doesn’t have room for grammer; plural is “Secretaries of State”. Maybe one of his brother in laws could have told him.
Its funny how race keeps coming up for the repugs.
Kinda like homophobia with Fred Phelps.
What are they afraid of?
Any “outreach” the rethugs do is not for better relations with African-americans. It is a play to the white suburbanites, to make them think the republican party is not really the party of the KKK.
What about Adam West? I’d vote for him! Biff! Pow! Socko!
Or the fact that this in the 22nd Congressional District we have LTC (R) Allen White, an african american, is running
“Dr. Freud to the West, er, white courtesy phone, paging Dr. Sigmund Freud…”
And I have to say the GOP diversity efforts have been very successful – dey are certainly de verse party in history.
I don’t know about the black vote, but Mr.
WhiteWest should have the cliche lover vote locked up.Barack Obama he ain’t!
