When I heard about Senator Ted Kennedy’s illness today I promised that I wasn’t going to spend the day nut picking through the comments on conservative blogs looking for wishes of ill-tidings. The stupid I can deal with, the loathsome is just a reminder that when it comes to some conservatives: you can’t live ‘em, you can’t round ‘em up and put them into re-education camps.
I told you there was a downside to this "tolerance" bullshit.
Anyway, leave it to Michael Savage to make me break my promise to myself:
Following the announcement that Sen. Ted Kennedy (D-MA) has been diagnosed with a malignant brain tumor, nationally syndicated radio host Michael Savage opened his May 20 show by interspersing audio of Kennedy singing "Ay Jalisco No Te Rajes" with clips of news reporters discussing Kennedy’s diagnosis and audio from the 1990 film Kindergarten Cop in which Arnold Schwarzenegger’s character says, "It’s not a tumor." Later, Savage played the Dead Kennedys song "California Über Alles" after stating: "The poor guy’s been suffering for years, you know? Unfairly he’s been accused of alcoholism, but we see now that it was something much more deep-seated. And so, to cut this out in some respect for Ted Kennedy, here’s a tune coming at you from the Dead Kennedys. Go ahead and play it, please."
After reading from the lyrics of "California Über Alles," Savage said, "No gloating today, no laughter, all serious. You don’t joke about a man’s cancer. I do it, but I won’t do it today; it’s something I will not do." At one point in the program, he told a caller, "You know I’m playing the Dead Kennedys not to mock Ted Kennedy. It’s just appropriate, that’s all."
Later in the program, Savage aired a clip of Sen. Robert Byrd (D-WV) offering a tribute to Kennedy on the Senate floor before describing Byrd as "a senile senator" and "a walking psycho." Savage went on to assert, "For years now, Byrd has been blubbering on the floor of the Senate. For years, I mean, to be honest, Kennedy didn’t seem sane to me." He continued, "Forget about the drunk stories and all that — anybody can drink. The guy sounded like he was off for years, I’m sorry."
Classy.

I’m looking forward to McCain denouncing him sometime today.
Denounce and reject.
Savage=weiner
As glorious a piece of smackdown as you wrote, my dear Tbogg, the ghost of the late great writer Shirley Jackson will haunt you for using the title of one of her books for this post. (And I don’t doubt that Miss Jackson has a ghost out there somewhere.)
Once when the famously apolitical Jackson had had enough of the political arguments raging in the crowd surrounding her husband, the critic and professor Stanley Edgar Hyman, her response was the couplet:
I would not drop dead for the lack of you
My cat has more brains than the pack of you
And more brains than the Savage Wiener, doubtless…
Classy. That certainly describes the savage wienie. Oh and a box of rocks has more brains the Savage does.
You ain’t seen nothin’ yet. As reality further reveals the toxic nature of the Bush regime’s “accomplishments” the vituperation from these guys will continue toward crescendo. Once a Democrat is elected president and the Republicans lose seats in both houses the right wing noise machine will be all shrieking, all the time.
There will be, for us, a harvest of unintentional hilarity and things to mock as the wingers thrash about wildly blaming everyone but themselves for the setback. I’m stocking up on popcorn and Finlandia.
Savage puts the ass back in classy.
I fucking hate California Nazis.
Sick Radio Hutu mofo.

OT – please excuse the driveby tbogg:
driveby – SJC hearing has started (on cspan3 also).
Don’t hold your breath.
oo, can’t wait to see them all stand up and swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth.
leahy made ‘em to it.
President Lecture McHypocrite is pursing his lips and speaking bad Spanish.
Go back to Texas asshole.

Another of the socalled ‘accomplishments’ of this Administration is(and I do blame it on people like Cheney using crude language on the floor of the Senate against people who do not agree with them)that this sort of cruel, humiliating, schoolyard bully crap is not only accepted…but lauded and applauded. The level of discourse and behavior has been permanently shoved into the gutter by this sort of stuff.
We all knew Savage was a prick. We just not what species of one. Lizard evidently for the cold blood and non-existent sense of humor.
Where have you gone, H.L. Mencken? Our nation turns its lonely eyes to you…
Woo woo woo…
nice! Am hoping this hearing is my morning cuppa CSPAN at dawn tomorrow.
Does the prick still own Rockstar Energy drinks? May I suggest a boycott?
g’mornin, good folks of Firedoglake. Hi tBogg, and thanks for the CSpan heads up, selise!
G’mornin’!
You know, if Weiner really listened to the lyrics of the DK’s songs, he might not like them so much. California Uber Alles is kind of a goof, but they were pretty political in their day, and not kind to Reagan or the Republican Zeitgeist. Not that you could actually understand the lyrics by listening to them …
Prayers to Senator Kennedy and family. Savage will reap what he sows. We all do.
OK, what’s the deal? This post if front paged on both TBogg and FDL. Mightly confusing.
believe that is his son’s company. believe same hatchling has publicly distanced himself from parent after some grocers pulled his product a few years back
I’m sure Limbaugh will soon do a mocking on-air impression of Ted having a seizure.
And now we get the news that Alex Castellanos, conservative commentator on CNN, says it’s okay to call Senator Clinton a “bitch” because, after all, that’s what she is.
Hmm, does that mean it’s okay to call Alex Castellanos a stupid fucking “sp*ck” because, after all, that’s what he is?
Rockstar Energy drinks? May I suggest a boycott?
I’m boycotting all energy drinks. I never bought one.
It’s a nice thing to know, that both Senator Kennedy and this slimy little weasel are getting to watch the colorful, prolonged, painful, collapse of the Republican Party and the radical right.
wow
people who “don’t know” what exactly their income is……
yeah. right.
and they “understand” people’s concerns about the prices at the pumps.
can we has frog march time nowz puhleeeze?????
No, it’s now ok to call Sen. Clinton a b**ch because people like Dick Cheney have made it ok for people to be publicly crude in situations which, ten years ago, would have warrented far more polite and discrete language. Once Cheney said the ‘f’ word to (Jeffords?) on the Senate floor, the gloves were off for all of his thuggish supporters.
I believe that he said it to Patrick Leahy…
Savage is “unpatriotic”.
For Savage:
“Nazi Punks Fuck Off!”
http://youtube.com/watch?v=0tQ19tAw6h0
It’s just appropriate, that’s all…
I’m sure it won’t be long either.
My ass has a date with Mr. Savage’s face.
Yeah, I’m classy that way myself.
Savage is his radio persona. His real name is Weiner. I don’t know if its pronounced Weener or Whiner. He is an assh*le either way.
Savage is another future passenger on that slow boat to Haifa.
In a friggin Hefty Bag.
It’s OK to call Alex a “bitch” because the word has evolved into gender-neutral slang, not necessarily pejorative.
I have a “Sexy Bitch” pin on one of my baseball caps…Well, that’s what I “am”…
Savage carries a chapstick autographed by George Bush.
It is a sad state of affairs when my second thought after hearing about senator Kennedy’s terrible diagnosis was “gee, I wonder how long until a winger screamer makes fun of this?”. Looks like my assessment of about 24 hours was correct.
I had never heard of this guy, Savage until a week ago when I heard a broadcast that followed the baseball game I was previously listening to. The topic that day was gay marriage. I was appalled at the outrageousness of this man, and the lies and hate he spewed on radio. It’s criminal to give out false information to the public under the guise of free speech. His call in listeners were horrifying to say the least. It’s these people the GOP should look to when wondering why their brand has lost all it’s credibility. Savage and Rush are the face of the GOP now and will be in the future once Bush vacates the White House.
Like you, I did not know anything about him; then, he shows up on my dial. Crude and repulsive. But then, the same crowd as Hannity, who could absolutely put his program on a CD. He only plays the Wright loop, about 3 times over, and if anyone calls to complain, he plays it somemore to say this is what proves my point. I am quite sure he is brain damaged and can only repeat something lodged in his brain. What a dingbat.
