That photo of Assrocket having his way with a cornweinie creeps me out almost as much as that shot of Hugh Hewitt crossing the finish line at the Platex Living Bra 5K Run to Stomp Out Nipple Chafing.

But then again, I have issues.

(Yeah, Quaker, that occured to me as well…)

I’m so old, I remember when we used to think giving G.I.s college money was a way to get more people to join up.

Well, if the problem is that there are too many incentives to getting out of the military, I say we create some disincentives. Why don’t we make the soldiers crawl through a minefield on their bellies and swim a moat filled with hungry crocodiles to ETS. Problem solved.

Retention might be better if they’d started building up the numbers five years ago when it became glaringly apparent that the war was going to last longer than Rumsfeld’s famous “six weeks, six months.” That way, troops might not have to go on four or five tours and might actually have time to rest, retrain and re-equip. Of course, if victory is always six months away you don’t need any more troops.

From cutting taxes (A wartime first) to stinting on medical care to opposing the Webb GI bill the Republicans have demonstrated that there’s no sacrifice, however small, that they are willing to make to support the war they started.

…to pledge his fealty to the military…

If he’s running for president shouldn’t it be, you know, the other way around? Cause if not, we should just change the name of the office to “Generalissimo” to avoid confusion.

John McCain — who occasionally reminded a Memorial Day ceremony packed with veterans and active military that he wants to be commander in chief

Is the title of that office another thing that changed with 9/11? I believe that in every previous <strike>occupation</strike> war it was called president.

And, Corndog Guy, I’m sure the troops appreciate the steaming cup o’ STFU you’re buying them for Memorial Day.

McCain asserted that the new GI Bill sponsored by Sen. James Webb (D-Va.) and supported by Obama will drive soldiers out of the armed services at a time when the country is trying to expand the size of the military.

WTF. He’s not even saying that. Who edits this crap? McCain is saying more or less explicitly that the new GI Bill sponsored by Sen. James Webb (D-Va.) and supported by Obama will *allow* soldiers out of the military. He’s saying if we give them the opportunity to do anything other than shoot people and be shot at, they might, you know, *take* it. (Which seems like a good thing for, what is it Hindrocket claims to be again, a libertarian?, to support. People with, just for example, choices about their careers. I just possibly may be missing the point of the whole libertarian thing, though…. Or else Johnny Corndog is.)

But that’s practically journalistic malpractice. McCain isn’t coming close to saying it would drive people out of the military. Making them earn so little their families end up on food stamps is driving people out of the military. He’s upset because it will stop driving people *into* the military for life. This is the exact opposite of the position and attitude attributed to him here.

Which makes him, frankly, an asshole. And so’s the fucker who’s letting him get away with pretending he’s not.

Politicizing Israel’s 60th anniversary and the Holocaust isn’t shameless, though. Ol’ Corndog thinks Bush’s speech was “excellent . . . great.”
