Word on the street is that John McCain’s speech tonight was deeply and profoundly sucktastic, and so it turns to two of the brighter lights in the conservative constellation to offer up some really swell advice:
Exactly Right [Kathryn Jean Lopez]
Sean Hannity just offered some advice to McCain on Hannity & Colmes. If he wants to give an inspiring speech, the senator ought to look at Mitt Romney’s CPAC exit speech and Fred Thompson’s exit speech; they were both fantastic, conservative, uplifting speeches. And so, John McCain should make like he’s about to bow out of the race to find, as Hillary might put it, his voice.
Because everyone loves a quitter.

I heartily endorse this idea. McCain should be extra enthusiastic in declaring his withdrawal from the race. The crowd will go nuts.
By the way, K-Lo, you do remember that they cheered Romney because they don’t like McCain?
Haha! J/K! We have always been at peace with McCainasia!
Just watched as much of the McSame speech as I could manage. His makeup was apparently done at a funeral home (nice, rich orange hue–he looks almost alive). Come to think of it, I think the undertakers coached him on his delivery, too.
McCain said nice things about his “friend”, Hillary Clinton.
I’m wondering if he still tells his hilarious, “Why is Chelsea Clinton so ugly?” joke when he’s among friends.
He’s such a nice man.
They had to make him orange so that he wouldn’t blend in with the green background.
Anybody else totally creeped out when McSame gives a wide mirthless grin–I think it’s a grin; a horizontal aperture in his face opens, revealing many, many teeth–and he holds it several seconds too long?
we’re gonna lose when the Youth Vote discovers “McCain®” is really a Matt Groening production.
I agree with K Lo for once. I think McCain should copy those speeches especially the part where they take about how they want to spend time with their family and they fought the good fight but not it’s time to let go. Those parts are teh awesome!
I’m surprised Hannity didn’t include the classic “you won’t have Dick Nixon to kick around anymore” speech.
After watching that McCain speech what came to mind is why on earth are his care givers going to put him on stage with Obama? He would be better off locking himself in one of his eight houses and let people judge him from their memory of Campaign 2000 McCain. The guy is a wreck.
I think a sponsorship from Orange Julius is a natural campaign tie-in, don’t you?
– and he’s had the last many months almost to himself, with no real opponent and a media that has largely glossed over his more profound senior moments.
I really hope our Grillmaster-in-Chief will whip out one of those inspiring retirement talks when he realizes just how taxing it’s going to be to have to campaign until November (or January, according to the calendar he saw posted at the assisted living facility) among people who hate his sorry old ass and all that he has come to stand for.
Srsly, why not just stay home, flip some burgers and burn thru some more of wifey’s fortune? Maybe have his old best buddy George over to reminisce about the good ol’ days when they could, you know, have their cake and eat it, too?

What is it with these pukes that not one of them has a normal smile? Take GWB and that constant stupid smirk that you want to slap off his face — Cheney with his evil smirk — ditto Rove. I could go on and on through every repuke.
I guess stupid and/or evil just cannot fake a normal, joyful smile. Of course, they don’t have a whole lot to be joyful about at this point — heh, heh.
John McCain: the anti-Reagan.
Semi-joyous occasion: NYT opens campaign coverage with one page of Clinton, 2 pages of Obama, Obama wooing Clinton fundraisers on one half of the page, and McCain stuck in the very last bottom corner. Oh, yes, him.
Another campaign analogy: Monfils has just beaten Ferrer and gets to play Federer on Friday, which I will not get to see live because NBC must show Today for all 4 hours. That stadium is going to go NUTS if it is competitive at all!
(This was really tenuous and if Monfils was white probably would not have been written)
What was his campaign thinking? I said it at roy’s and I’ll repeat it here:
Feeling the McCainia at Matlockon 08 was about as riveting as wearing wet socks. But to give that speech at that place on the same day as Obama’s puts the contrast at rougly a billion percent in Obama’s favor.
It’s rare to actually watch a campaign implode on Day 1, but holyshit that was just awful.

No place to go, though, but up…or back…or, um, sideways.
Can’t run from Bush, can’t run with him. Yeah, Jelloman’s fucked.
You Make Republi-bunny Cry.
Actually, like the problems he has raising his arms over his head, that rictus smile is due in large part to having his face bashed in over the course of a few years.
IIRC he had his jaw and cheek bones broken several times by Vietnamese captors.
So yes, it’s fucking creepy, he’s fucking creepy and I hope with all of my black heart he takes after Mitt or Fred and runs just as successfully as they did.
He could borrow Freds pickup for stumping. Yeah, he could get a pine box to lay in and rest, then stand on it for the stump speech. That would work good, wouldn’t it? Just trying to help…
They are going to have to ratchet up the “Obama is a smooth talker, he’s a sweet talker, he’s got the talky talk talk thing, and poor Johnny McCain is just a straight-shootin’ war hero, how oh how can he compete with that silky smooth talkin’ smoothie?” To manage expectations for when JMac gets creamed in the debates.
McCain might borrow someone’s Bassett Hound for a VeeP…Just to liven things up a bit…
The TBogg household, he has told us, always does well under Republican administrations. They will be in high cotton when McCain/Beckham are in power.
I was thinking he should choose Judi Giuliani as his running mate. I mean, two bat-shit crazy, power-hungry doofuses out there spreading the conservative gospel, while Mrs. McCain stands in the background glaring and sending telepathic laser beams into Judi’s skull, while Meghan dances off on the side wearing a sweatshirt, high heels and clown pants.
VonZeppelin, many of us “elitists” do well financially in Republican administrations because they cut our taxes and their policies redistribute income upward. I didn’t vote for it but I ain’t apologizing for it either.
I’ll still vote Democratic because I want to see everybody get an even break, see some semblance of fiscal sanity restored and I want the war over. I do realize, though, that I will probably have to pay some higher taxes to achieve those things. As long as I can still afford a latte at Starbuck’s, I’m OK with it. I suspect the TBogg household may be in similar circumstances.
I know your reference is to an earlier post TBogg made about Hillary. Hillary campaigned against us elitists but I’m not bitter. The bitterness over Clinton has to end at some point guy. It’s over and it’s time to move on.
Who’s Beckham?
DaPug,
I was indeed referring to Mr. Bogg’s earlier post of May 21, in which, in a moment of rage and despair at certain Clintonisms, he stated
I was referencing (in an attempt at humor) TBogg’s own words. I am something of a yellow-dog Democrat myself, and I would have voted for Hillary with a certain lack of enthusiasm had she won the nomination. I personally am all for moving on to unite the party and whip the old guy in front of the green sign.
As to your question, “Who’s Beckham?” you’re not from around here in TBoggville, are you? Come back to this site late on any Thursday evening to be introduced to Beckham.
That’s not a grin it’s a rictus.
And by the way, that creepy chortle makes my flesh crawl.
