David Broder, who has been getting a little cash on the side from his regular gig, starts off Thursday's column with:
When Barack Obama decided last week to throw off the constraints on campaign spending that go with the acceptance of public financing, he was rightly criticized for rigging the system in his favor.
..and we need read no further than this since Broder has no intention of explaining how exactly Obama is "rigging [a] system" that allows him to opt out of public financing and why playing within the rules is a bad thing for everyone, particularly John McCain who doesn't.
By August the Serious Village Elders will be demanding that Barack Obama allow McCain to hit his tee shots from the senior gold tee box while Obama has to hit his from the parking lot... blindfolded.

I had to fix Broder’s typos:
The story is Obama. There is no bad story for Krusty. Krusty is honorable, Krusty doesn’t flip flop, he adjusts. Obama flip flops. Got it??
Apart from the gratuitous swipe at Obama, Broder apparently just noticed that districts are gerrymandered. This was never a problem when, say, Tom DeLay was doing it, but the prospect of having the Dems in control when the next census comes out just scares the bejeezus out of Broder.
Isn’t the point of a political campaign to use the system to your advantage? By Broder’s reasoning, the fact that Bush “rigged the system (electoral college) in his favor” in 2000 would be a terrible, terrible thing.
But I guess not as terrible as Al Gore being President. Thank Pensacola Jesus that we never heard from that guy again.
It will be interesting to see how far David Broder and the other Village Elders will take things when their current columns have no effect on the polls: “We just pointed out that John McCain eats more manly sandwiches than Barack Obama and McCain didn’t get a sandwich bump.” I’m guessing they will eventually join the McCain campaign’s inevitable decline to the bottom of the sewer, while pretending to be “fair”: “Of course, there is no proof that Obama wants to surrender America to Cameroon as is now being implied (not by John McCain, of course), but it is an issue that should at least be discussed seriously.”
McInsane, McInane, McSame, McBush…all fine derogatory terms for the presumptive Republic Presidential nominee, but none ever really worked for me.
But Krusty?! That’s a hole in one!
“…while Obama has to hit his from the parking lot… blindfolded.”
And two hands tied behind his back. Of course.
Go check TPM for a little story that made me nervous. Krusty is ahead significantly in polls in Missouri; Krusty has been running tons of ads that paint him as (1) standing up to Dubya, and (2) pro environment; basically he’s running to the center there and it is working against that uppity melanin-enhanced fellow. No doubt Broder and the rest of the Villagers will be doing their best to continue this line of propaganda as the season moves on; after all, where else can they get such good BBQ?
In the good old days that both of them yearn for, McKrusty and Broder would, at this point in life, have both been smothered or stranded on an ice floe. They demonstrate that the custom is not without merit.
The madness behind the ten thousand Obama volunteers in Texas.
Shorter David Broder:
“How dare that uppity n-word beat us at our own game?”
I’ve been working McInane but yer right — Krusty he is!
Hm, so apparently opting OUT of public financing is “rigging the system” and “opting in to get on the ballot and secure a loan, then reneging and violating your own campaign finance law” is not.
Got it.
“Krusty”
Just has that kreepy klown faktor…
