There’s a common misconception that Bassets are small-to-medium-sized dogs, based probably on their short stature. My Molokai is about 55 lbs (he’s always been quite thin and active, unusual for a Basset) and Maggie is about 60-65. Our smallest Basset was Maui, who ran about 50-55 lbs. One characteristic of the breed that’s not generally known is that they have very heavy bones. They’re also very strong! I’ve met 100 lb Bassets, though those are usually overweight. 80 lbs is not at all unusual.

Or it might not surprise them at all, considering the frequency with which you use “limber” or “lithe” to refer to one of the occupants of the bed.

If you hang them up side-by-side, they’d be like one of those desktop executive timewasters with the clacky metal balls, you know? Just pull Fenway back, release, and let him swing into Satch. The impact makes Beckham swing out on the other side!

Beckham and Satchmo each weigh in at a hefty 65 lbs, but we think Fenway will be much bigger…yes. somewhere around 80. They are not small dogs….

With the right lights and music, you’ve got Cirque de Soleil right there in your bedroom! I’d come to San Diego and pay good money to see that! It’s more entertaining than the bottom-of-the-division Padres.
