Since I had exactly bupkus to blog about this evening (and since I’m not with the Kool Kidz at Netroots Nation) I thought I would plop in a soccer post since I also had the evening to myself while the lovely and talented Casey & mrs tbogg were off to see the women’s National team face of against Brazil in the last tune-up before the Olympics.
US wins 1-0 on a header ("beautiful and perfect" quoth the L&T one) by Natasha Kai who, with her fifteen tattoos (twelve more than Casey) and take-no-prisoners physicality, is turning into quite the fan favorite. More importantly:
The win raised the Americans’ 2008 record to 21-0-1 and extended their home unbeaten streak to 31. The U.S. team beat Brazil 1-0 on Sunday at Commerce City, Colo. It was the fourth U.S. win in five matches by a 1-0 score.
Obviously things have turned around since the firing of dumbass Coach Greg Ryan and I was pleased to hear that Hope Solo, who has been accounting for these shutouts, received the biggest ovation of any of the players during the introductions. Needless to say, I feel vindicated (see here and here).
On another note, Casey returns back to school in mid-August to prepare for her season. Having gone 0-31 in their first two years of existence, this could be the year her school gets their first win if for no other reason than they have an actual recruiting class coming in.
Hope springs eternal.

I am totally marrying Natasha Kai tomorrow in Vegas.
Dear L&TC–Keep playin’, girl…right now, you’re just looking for one, and it’ll come; which one will be a good surprise…
Another fan happy to have Hope in the net. You can only win with 1 goal if you shut them out. Sounds trite, but that’s what a great goalie can do for you. Plus, she’s from the Tri-Cities (Richland, WA). Sure, she said the wrong thing when benched – but the punishment was way overboard.

Just watch the L&TC’s team this year – worst to first, baby.
I think you misspelled Kali.
But how will the USA do without Abby Wambagh?
But how will the USA do without Abby Wambagh?
We’re now gonna find out. Broken leg.
Maybe they can bring back Foudy, anything to get her off the ESPN soccer desk. Never has one person been so wrong about so many others than Foudy. She made pre and post-game commentary during the European Championships nearly unwatchable.
When I was watching the game last night, they made it sound like Wambach’s injury wasn’t that bad, but today it says both tibia and fibula broken. Too bad for her, but I’m excited to see what the rest of the team can do. Kai is fun to watch, a lot of attitude but a lot of talent too, and you really don’t see that many soccer players with lots of tats. Now without Wambach, I’ll bet the rest of them can stand up. And I’m soooo glad that Hope Solo is back; that whole dustup at the World Cup was a real crock, and it was all the coach’s fault anyway, as far as I’m concerned. I was really glad to see that dipstick get his walking papers.

Natasha Kai scares me and makes me feel funny, all at once.
Off to BigSoccer…
Hope is a great goalie…and the team appears to be returning to real soccer, not boot ball. Just sayin’
My 11 YO wants to know what position L&T Casey plays says TBogg should provide us with ongoing updates of the season…win, lose or draw. She agrees with you about Hope Solo.
Defender.
Yes the L&T Casey is a natural left defender…hard hitting, big left foot, incredible first touch and lots of confidence with the ball. However, last year she played mainly center mid due to her ball distibution skills. She (and I) are hopeful that the recruiting class includes a real, aggressive, go forward kind of center mid so Casey can get back to the job of keeping balls out of the net. Her keeper will be pleased also.
