Sean H: Who da ya like?

Bill R: You’re kidding right?

Sean H: But this gray one, “Bomb Bomb Johnny” looks like a decent price at 90-1.

Bill R looks at racing form:

Bill R: Maybe, but it says here that last race he changed direction four times before finishing dead last.

Sean H: But the stallion is 2-5. You can’t make any money off of him.

Bill R: Maybe you’re right. I’ll just put $2 bucks on him and save the rest of my cash for a new loofah.

Big Media applies this rationalization to every argument used to point out bias. “It’s not a result of bias,” they say. “It’s a matter of news judgment.”

And, like the man who knows his wallet was pickpocketed but can’t prove it, the public is left to futilely rage against the injustice of it all.

The “newsworthy” argument can be applied to every metric — one-sided imbalances in airtime, story placement, column inches, number of stories, etc. — save one.

Aren’t these the same people who are always going on about the unfairness of the Fairness Doctrine?

These kind of accounting tricks have been around for a long time, they add up the contributions of the copy boys and office staffs of he news organizations, and conveniently leave out the large contributions of the board members and other corporate officers. Yes, the low level office staffers contribute to Democrats, as do most of the researchers and other salaried employees.

Reporters rarely make political contributions of any stripe, and besides, the total amounts here are miniscule for organizations as large as these. The microscopic amount from Fox News probably means that the office staff is probably so underpaid that they can’t afford to make any contributions at all.
