Haydn60, I can see how that would be perfect. I’ll have to try synching them later when I have more time.

I first saw Koko’s Earth Control in the mid-to-late ’70s at the (late, lamented) UC Theatre in Berkeley, on a whole bill of Max & Dave Fleischer shorts. Great stuff, but that one is the one I recall most vividly. Possibly the coolest thing I ever saw there–and I saw a whole lot of cool movies at that theatre.

TomHilton, yes, Koko’s Earth Control is one of the best. In 1982, my friend, David Lewis, & I used to borrow films from the Cincinnati library & throw cartoon parties whenever we had enough $ to rent a Super8 projector. We’d always show that one. Several years later one of our friends acquired both a VCR & a camera & Dave fashioned a great soundtrack onto it from two Fletcher Henderson sides, “Copenhagen” (tk 1) & “Stampede“.

Pause the cartoon at 0:00 & play “Copenhagen”; when the tune hits 0:06 hit play on the cartoon. As a check, the trumpet* (Satchmo!) should start the 3rd time we see Earth from a distance. Later, among other swell synchronized actions, you’ll hear the chromatic passage when Fitz finally pulls the lever. There’s about a second of silence after the sun dies. When the lightning starts up again, play “Stampede” & fade it after the cartoon ends.

If you like it, go tell Uncle Dave what a great job he did.

*I think it’s a cornet but that looks like “comet” in some fonts & I didn’t want to confuse.
