Since John Edwards committed adultery I would encourage both Democrats and Republicans to refrain from voting for him for president. Additionally this should also apply to John McCain who fooled around on his wife after she was crippled in an accident and then married a beer heiress who could finance his political future. And since Bob Barr also had an affair, that means that we're left with that black guy.
I welcome the support of Katherine Jean Lopez, Rod Dreher, Hugh Hewitt, The Anchoress, Mitt Romney, Dr. James Dobson, Michael Medved and sundry and assorted other moral paragons and pecksniffs, as we combat the forces of extramarital nookieism.

This is good news, for Rudy!! D’oh!! He’s another one.
I’m still trying to decide which is worse: The fact that people are actually interested in the sex lives of people whose job description essentially requires a moral deficit for success, or the fact that so many women seem to be attracted to guys who aren’t very attractive, aren’t very bright, and who aren’t exactly the poster boys for Darwinian “survival of the fittest.” Could this be the Intelligent Design of which the wingnuts speak?
Regardless of your thoughts on this, it was foolish of Edwards to think such information wouldn’t get out. If we should have learned anything in the last 25 years, he should have learned that. It ALWAYS gets out.
I feel sorry for those who worked hard for him, donated money to him, and most of all for Elizabeth, who at least outwardly, seems like a person who doesn’t deserve all the shit that has come her way in the last few years.
But I look forward to slapping around Republican moral scolds who think this in any way compensates for McCain’s dumping of a wife with her own issues in favor of the beer heiress he was schtupping on the side.
As disappointed as anyone may be in Edwards, we may as well assume that any man who has risen to that level of prominence and power is going to find opportunities to get something on the side, no matter how they may profess loyalty and iron self-control (cf Eliot Spitzer). If they can resist the temptation, bully for them. But if they can’t or won’t and it doesn’t interfere with how they do the job, should we care? The incumbent @ 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue has spent more time on his bike than Clinton did with that woman he didn’t have sex with, to say nothing of his brush-clearing vacations.
Let he who is without feet of clay cast the first aspersion, or something to that effect.
Bush would cheat on Laura but no one is interested. Well, Peggy Noonan and K-Lo would still do him, but they prefer the Bush of their imaginations.
Completely off topic, the Boston Globe has 24 magnificent photos of the opening ceremonies in Bejiing. I believe the Chinese can safely claim the Gold for ceremonial pageantry. Truly awe-inspiring. (The last photograph slams everything back to reality though.)

Thank you. I really do not give a shit about who any politician sleeps with unless it: a) is likely to affect their performance in office (like having an affair with a lobbyist) or b) reveals pervasive hypocrisy. Obsessing on the affairs of a politician who is not currently running for office is frankly stupid. I think it must reveal the degree to which the corporate media fear Edwards’ populist economic message. Having said that, it was a stupid thing to do, but, as others have observed, let he who is without sin cast the first stone.
Meh. K-Lo has been waiting for an excuse to throw herself at Romney or Huckabee again. If she decided that McCain’s adultery counted in any significant way, she still wouldn’t go for Obama, because, you know, he’s one of those oversexed… democrats.
Adulterer. That’s the word never used in the same sentence with Krusty. That and lie until this week were words that are his essence but strangely not used.
“opportunities to get something on the side”
I cannot say how angry this phrase, and the assumptions behind it, make me.
What about Nader?
Nookieism?
THAT is funny.
Bush would cheat on Laura but no one is interested. Well, Peggy Noonan and K-Lo would still do him, but they prefer the Bush of their imaginations.
Harriet and Condi would still do (may be doing) him. Ewwwwwwww.
Those who are saying “Let he who is without sin cast the first stone” — it’s not about the philandering — no one is perfect, it’s about the lack of responsibility he has shown to all of the people who supported him, sent him money, etc. Did he learn NOTHING from the Clinton mess? Did he think he would not be caught? Thank Gawd he didn’t get the nomination.
I would have voted for Edwards or Kucinich if either were gay or each had ten girlfriends. That American society has not evolved to accept the truth (that men and women commit adultery) is a sad fact. Religion can’t stop it. Piety won’t stop it.
Why are Republican voters not bothered by McCain’s transgression(s)? The Fascist MSM isn’t telling them to be bothered by it.
James Dobson (Focus on the Money) not only does not condemn McCain, he endorses him. Hypocrisy all around.
How about “pecksniff”? F**king brilliant.
Indeed, the subject of Wrinkly White-Haired Dude’s adultery seems to be the Question That May Not Be Asked. But I feel confident that, sometime before the election, someone will blurt it out, with ensuing hilarity and one of those “what’s that bad smell?” moments.
smilingdog said: “What about Nader?”
I was just about to have a nice breakfast, but the idea that anyone would consent to sex with Nader pretty much eliminated the nice part.
What if she were an old Corvair?
It would still be unsafe at any speed.
Well, for those interested, KJ-Lo is looking for a bunkmate on the nest National eview cruise. Sp step right up, you can’t miss this. One commenter even suggested Cindy Sheehan as her cabin-mate.

The first time I have seen someone suggest that for anyone to do GW, he would have to wear a bag over his head…..
Of course, what would one expect from someone whose better half crows about his sexual prowess, milking bulls.
My understanding that Condi rather do Harriet than the chimp.
He’ll always have Guckert.
Bush would cheat on Laura but no one is interested.
The one thing Kissinger was ever right about is that “Power is an aphrodisiac.” Dubya is the one one who isn’t interested — from all evidence, he likes his women as mommy-substitutes and his men as coatholders. Even knocking up Laura without artificial assistance seems to have been too much trouble for him. His idea of a Real Good Time is a nice gym session with Miss Condi, followed by an afternoon riding his bike in the park (and EVERYBODY ELSE has to follow *behind*) or playing with Big Noisy Tools, and then off to bed at 9pm with his favorite pillow. In other words, the “leader of the free world” has the emotional maturity of your average preschooler, and we’re all living with the consequences.
I really think a lot of MSM BS could have been avoided if Gary Hart had answered that any extramarital affairs are his and his wife’s business and not the nation’s business. Since she doesn’t have any problems there isn’t any issue.
Maybe a comment to the effect that JFK was an inspiration to him as a leader and in many other ways as well, but that’s just snarky. JFK did have the kind of MSM adoration that McSame has today, so maybe there is a little more than snark actually and that remark could stop the whole sexual political inquisition game before the MSM really started playing.
GWPDA @ 10
Why? Do those assumptions betray some kind of terrible, awful prejudice, like racism or sexism? What shall we call it? Politicianism?
Theodore H. White wrote his memoirs, In Search of History, in 1978. He wrote that as a journalist he had covered, up close and in depth, all the major presidential candidates of both parties back to Eisenhower. He said that those “something on the side” opportunities had always been there and that, to his personal knowledge, every single one of them had taken advantage of that fact. Well, one exception, Jimmy Carter.
So why should we be shocked, shocked about Edwards? Power, even power not yet attained, has always been the strongest aphrodisiac.
