In many ways it looks like it was a good thing that Hot Soup Hack Ron Fournier didn’t accept the job offer from the McCain campaign. Why buy the cow when the milk is free? Fournier, this morning:
The candidate of change went with the status quo.
In picking Sen. Joe Biden to be his running mate, Barack Obama sought to shore up his weakness — inexperience in office and on foreign policy — rather than underscore his strength as a new-generation candidate defying political conventions.
He picked a 35-year veteran of the Senate — the ultimate insider — rather than a candidate from outside Washington, such as Govs. Tim Kaine of Virginia or Kathleen Sebelius of Kansas; or from outside his party, such as Sen. Chuck Hagel of Nebraska; or from outside the mostly white male club of vice presidential candidates. Hillary Rodham Clinton didn’t even make his short list.
The picks say something profound about Obama: For all his self-confidence, the 47-year-old Illinois senator worried that he couldn’t beat Republican John McCain without help from a seasoned politician willing to attack. The Biden pick is the next logistical step in an Obama campaign that has become more negative — a strategic decision that may be necessary but threatens to run counter to his image.
It didn’t really matter who Obama selected, Fournier was going to make a case against them.
So, while everyone else was waiting for their Obama VP text, Fournier was receiving one from from Karl Rove: "Keep up the fight"
That’s his job.

They have to attack Obama since they have nothing positive to offer. Have to say, however, if the current rumors are true about McCain choosing Romney, they are skating on VERY thin ice. Two out of touch richer-than-Croesus elitist fucks on the ticket? Pure comedy gold and a gimme to the Obama campaign.
Don’t forget that both Rupert Murdoch and Sam Zell are on the AP’s board. We already know about Murdoch but Zell is a wingnut as well.
And Digg it here:

Oh yes, all DC Insiders take Amtrak to work like Joe does! Spit.
I heard on the Howie Carr radio show out of Boston on WRKO that the Southern Baptists despise Mitt Romney. Oh boy! Let’s hope it’s true.
Dear Mr. Fournier,
Once you’ve fed that day’s Republican Talking Points through the Reguri-matic 2000, what do you do with the remaining 99% of your day?
I can’t decide if I should start a group called “Uppity Negro Men for Fournier”. Does that show a lack of confidence?
Contact info courtesy of C&L:
“UPDATE (Nicole) I’ve been given a new contact for AP: Contact the Associated Press … Kathleen Carroll (Fournier’s boss) at kcarroll@ap.org or (212) 621-1500. Be POLITE, but be FIRM. Let them know that you don’t want to see them serve as stenographers and amplifiers for pure spin by the McCain campaign”
Why spare them of the consequences of their shameless whoredom.
We can’t stop Fournier from supplying free propaganda for Rove, but we can dampen that propaganda by writing letters to the editor in papers that publish his tripe pointing out that he wanted to work for McCain at one point and gave the high-five to Rove. Let readers know wheere this guy stands by pointing out that he is just more of the same old, same old.
ron fornicator is dong the big reach around for mcsame so he can be competing for a plaque in the Ari Fleischer/Gannon/Ron Zeigler message-maker hall of fame.
Uncle Tom’s Caucus?
And now it looks like there’s someone on the ticket that knows how to use it! I loved Biden’s line that, when the kids are in bed and you’re at the kitchen table starting to worry about how you’re gonna pay your bills, John McCain doesn’t have to worry about that! He only has to worry about which of seven kitchen tables to sit at! Not mean, just true! Not a smarmy smear, just the facts, ma’am! And that was just one example.
I’m still hopeful Senator Obama’s election in November (only slightly jeopardized by his VP choice) will make right wing water carriers like Fournicatier obsolete. Perhaps I’m being too hopeful.
DIgby points out that Ron “earned his conservative merit badge on this one.”
Which is all he’s doing. Polishing the McCain knob, repeatedly.
gee, that quote is the same thing the talking head said on cnn, wonder how that is?
I can’t see McCain picking Romney because the Republic fundies will go into a petulant frenzy about Romney being a Mormon.
I certainly don’t want st. john to win, but this pick is to cement Obama’s leap into the dlc mix. I don’t care how you cut it, he has brought the message of “change” to a grinding halt. I suggested that his move on the FISA bill was going to hurt him in a big way in terms of money and people being willing to support him by working. He had enough strength to win without the dlc or being rethug-lite, in fact, he was probably guaranteed to win big. Now he is no more than Kerry was four years ago. I will be surprised if Obama actually wins. I’m sure that the other posters are going to want to call me a troll, but I want to know how Obama is signaling real change since Hillary dropped out.
Which?
Teddy’s “Polishing the knob” one?
On CNN?
Seriously?
It’s one thing if this is coming from a columnist at say the Topeka Tornado. But AP and DC bureau chief writing a smear that the GOP would pay big bucks for is over the line. He must be fired.
How can all these repub fundies not be in a petulant frenzy over the way McShame dumped his first wife/family
Nice one TBogg. The first and most important aspect of CHANGE needs to be an end to government run by neoconservative ideologues. McCain would be a continuation. Joe Biden will certainly help put an end to it and begin recovery of some of the “progress” lost.
tbogg says–So, while everyone else was waiting for their Obama VP text, Fournier was receiving one from from Karl Rove: “
Keep up the fight“”Ready, set, Go”after all, it’s olympics month.
bet he had a starter’s pistol that looks like a real gun..
time to switch back to fox now….already spread the anti-fungal cream, and lit candles. i’m good.
omg.
you crack me up, no, sorry, the one at the top, from the POST!!!
ROFL
Of all of the people in Washington Biden is probably one of the least tainted. After 35 yrs in the senate he is one of the poorest. He takes the train home to Delaware every night to be with his family.
at the bottom of the post at the top, before the comments, is a little thing called
spotlight.
you can access every single email for AP people, and send them this post.with a little letter if you like, just copy and paste the comment you made, looks good to me!
..i sent them one the other day about fornier, thought they should know a little more about him if they don’t already….and some of those addresses are his bosses.
can send ten at a time to the AP people.
and a few others.
you can also send your own little letters using spotlight’s address book, by wiping out the post and sending your own during the preview step.
has tv, print and radio addresses.
love it.
just sayin’.
where’d everybody go?
epu’d at 25?
lost in the ozone again?

Why gasbag on CNN said it? Amy Holmes? Gloria Borger? David Brody(Pat Robertson’s butt boy)?
That is such a helpful comment. I am guessing once losing most of one’s family would certainly remind you of the treasure. Thank you.
The list hasn’t been updated in a while. Liz “Sprinkles” Sidoti and the aforementioned Fournier aren’t on there.
I was reared one for 18 years and that’s the last they saw of me so can’t give you current feedback on their thinking but here’s a double helping of hope to go with yours.
There’s been some on-line info recently (from e&p, iirc) about several newspapers canceling their “subscriptions” (or whatever they’re called) to AP because of their excessive charges. These days I can’t remember which writers are thug mouthpieces but the name of the news group is the first thing I look for in determining how much credence to put in the content.
i think her name is leslie, don’t know her last name, she was sitting next to zimmerman-dem delegate…black hair. little past her shoulders, youngish. polished pointers spewing out of her mouth. and they had to sit close to fit the camera frame-her hips were as far away from his as they could get.
she’ll be back. pretty sure it was leslie.
am taping, so, don’t want to rewind it….
and the point to the AP mailings was to mail them to his co-workers and bosses-he already knows what he does and doesn’t care. sometimes i do mail stuff to the person if they have an inkling of a conscience or care about accuracy but in his case, was meant to flush him out.
and another new ayers attack ad was on a few minutes ago….in ohio.
my 31 was to nelson 27 and 29
Oh fercrissakes! If Obama had chosen someone without Washington experience, it would’ve played right into the wingnuts theme of “inexperience” and “not ready to lead”. AND, they would’ve been correct. Losing the “change” meme is minor in comparison.
Biden is not perfect — NO ONE IS! — but he adds a lot to the ticket. Foreign relations, obviously intelligent, likeable guy, a good attack dog with a sense of humor, comes from a blue collar background and communicates well with that group.
Furthermore, if something were to happen to Preznit Obama, I would rather have VP Biden ready to step in than Kaine, Bayh, Sebelius or Chet friggin’ Edwards.
Reading the intertubes as progressives shred Biden tells you exactly why Dems can’t win. Every candidate has to be perfect. One vote that you disagree with and the person is a bum. Grow the fuck up. It’s ridiculous.
Of all of the people in Washington Biden is probably one of the least tainted. After 35 yrs in the senate he is one of the poorest. He takes the train home to Delaware every night to be with his family.
Awwwww, gee. My heart is just going pitty-pat at the nice family values of the 35 year career pol – Mr. MBNA, himself. The terror of the Anita Hill hearings. Just a swell guy. Couldn’t have chosen a nicer one. Probably hasn’t strapped a dog or his mother-in-law or his wife to the roof of the station wagon in years.
I don’t disagree with terribly with anything that Fournier wrote. Biden shores up his weakness in the area of experience and national security. And I think that is just what the Republicans are afraid of. They were dying to make this an election based on experience. Biden has removed that option now. Tough shit for the GOP.
The whole idea that the electorate is consumed by the lack of bipartisanship is pure right wing hooey. That’s for the David Broder’s of this world. The people want a new direction in the country and that means that you have to elect a Democrat this time. They just need someone who can guide them on making that cerebral leap. Sure as shit, Obama can’t do that. He spent too much time making the Dems equivalent to the Reps.
Biden will work just fine for an attack dog. Pass the popcorn. Should be entertaining.
I figured it would be Biden if only for the fact that he knows how to bite extemporaniously, which at this point in ‘Murikan politics is something we need. Unfortunately. Clutching our collective pearls and exclaiming that we can’t get into the gutter like they have while the rethugs have slandered, lied, and ratfucked their way into office for the last 8 years has gotten us no where. They’ve managed to shift the political center so far right that an old-style centrist is now a fringe lefty. Who here thinks someone ID’d as a lefty has a chance in hell of winning anything in the current environment; hands please?
I’m a hard lefty, but even I can see that our target now is to get into office and shift that damned Overton Window (or whatever you call it); then we have a chance of electing a true progressive without the AP, Murdock, and every CEO in the country cutting them off at the knees right out of the gate. And for every progressive who is now saying they think Obama is rethug-lite and Biden is apostasy, all I have to say is Supreme Court and who gets to replace the current geriatrics determines everything about the next 25 years in this country. If you can’t see that, then I have to wonder what the hell those two shining orbs are on the front of your head.
Was the choice of Biden a slap in the face to ya’, kid? His standing of 99th in net worth in the Senate proves that he’s on the take from MBNA – right? Take a look at what MBNA incorporation business does for Delaware then tell me how Biden’s votes are different from any other Senator’s on his or her home state’s money maker. I’m with Lori: some Dems need to grow the fuck up.
Biden is just about as corporatist as it comes. It doesn’t really matter if he’s ‘on the take’ from MBNA – his collaboration in the Bankruptcy Act is enough to demonstrate his loyalties. They are not to the Democratic Party or to the citizens of Delaware – indeed, probably not any more than McCain’s are to the Republican Party or the citizens of Arizona. That we’re going to all be instructed to ‘get behind’ Joe Biden reminds me so much of that happy time when Lloyd Bentsen was going to create party unity – or John Edwards, or Joe Lieberman…. My only hope is that Obama has, as has been predicted, been made the fool of in this selection and that no more harm comes from it than already has. And, hey! What about that slut Anita Hill?
No one in the Obama campaign has so far mentioned anything about party unity. For people like you, party unity means Obama turning over his delegates to Clinton and apologizing to her for impeding her coronation.
My only hope is that Obama has, as has been predicted, been made the fool of in this selection and that no more harm comes from it than already has.
Concern troll message noted. That poor fool Obama only beat the candidate with initially more money and more name recognition. More harm? Biden kicked McCain’s ass in his first speech. If I recall correctly, Clinton praised McCain during the campaign. Whether Obama wins or not is a matter of political vicissitudes but, if Clinton and her supporters are perceived to have played a part in his failure to get elected then Clinton’s political career is over.
wat
In primary, Obamaniacs tell us that Obama is different, will bring real change, is something special.
In general, Obama picks corporate hack for VP and now Obamaniacs say we’re just jettisoning the “change meme”, Obama is just more of the same, it was all a con.
Yeah, we knew that.
“Whether Obama wins or not is a matter of political vicissitudes”
Obama is running against the continuation of a desperately unpopular presidency, embodied in a cranky fogey who can’t wait to get you embroiled in more wars, when he has a moment spare from enriching the already rich. Not winning the presidency by a distance would not be a “matter of political vicissitudes”. It would be a major league fuckup.
I agree that the Biden selection sucks in a lot of ways, although I lack the wisdom to know who would be better, under the circumstances. Thanks to the voting record of “Corporate Al” Wynn, he is no longer my Congressman, having been replaced by the very promising Donna Edwards. Unfortunately, Delaware ain’t the Fourth Congressional District of MD.
As a long time lurker over at Atrios’ place, and admirer of your intelligence and good works, I know enough of your personal experience (10th Circuit decisions and all that) to know why you might be particularly appalled and offended by the treatment meted out to Anita Hill – and, for that matter, the sexist and misogynistic manner in which Sen. Clinton* was treated by so many in the Commentariat, professionals and amateurs alike. [*And I say that as someone who would have supported her in the general election, but never did in the primary.]
If you ever feel up to reliving the pain and loss of your awful experience (court victories notwithstanding), it would be educational for those with willing minds and hearts to hear your story. Who knows whether the gains to be realized from such an endeavor would make up for whatever sacrifice this would entail for you personally, but I hope you will at least consider it, assuming the terms of your settlement would permit you to offer sufficient detail. Through no proactive avoidance of our own, those of us who have never been through what you endured often can’t even see the enormity of problems if we haven’t faced them personally – in nature if perhaps not in intensity, maybe it’s like lifetime civilians trying to relate to the experiences of combat veterans. This is a struggle that will go on for generations, unfortunately, but I have to hope and believe that we can change things, even if it is at an unsatisfying, glacial pace.
Keep taking care of yourself; you’re one of the good ones.
nelson–leslie sanchez. NOT youngish, cosmetically altered, didn’t see her up close, when i did-uh no, not youngish, but does her hair and wardrobe like she is. republican strategist, they call her an ‘expert’ on women’s and latino issues, cuz she’s a woman and latino yah knooow.
Paging DRZen: The cranky fogey is white and has spent the last several years being lauded by the press as a heroic maverick.
For people like you, party unity means Obama turning over his delegates to Clinton and apologizing to her for impeding her coronation.
Oh? Well, bless your little heart, DennisSGMM. It’s so nice that you know just exactly what ‘people like me’ mean…. Why, I declare, I just don’t know what I’d do without such a big, handsome thing as you telling me just exactly what’s right.
