T – Your picure of Satchmo’s beautiful box made me go get my Rosie’s ashes (Gorgeous Rottie) out of the closet and hug them. Weird. As. Shit. But makes me want to figure something out, before my little basset Rosie needs that treatment as well…

Satchmo is home where he belongs. You will find yourself talking to him still, because he was always the wise one. Listen to what he tells you.

Is there puppy porn? If so, I think we’ve got a star-in-the-making.

In a week of news that made my brain and heart ache, it’s good to know there’s always going to be bassett penis.

I know what you mean about the “shelf of stuff I love”. My Maddie is on my nightstand. She used to lay in front of it where I would practically kill myself trying to get out of bed and leap over her – ’cause she wasn’t moving. The boys are sweet.

Our Aussie Taz died in January. When my wife and I went to pick up his ashes we had plans to take him to his favorite hilltop park and, to fulfill his dearest wish, pour him into a ground squirrel hole. We had never had a pet cremated before and didn’t know what to expect. We were surprised when the receptionist handed us this seemingly elegant cedar box. OK, we thought. Bit more elaborate than the cardboard we were expecting.

Out in the parking lot, though, I tried to open the box. I struggled, pulled, pried. I mean, we had to open the box if we were going to dump Taz in a squirrel hole, right? We were both crying, and, for some reason, I was whacking the box against the car bumper when my wife put her hand on my arm and said, “Hon, please stop. This is turning into a scene from The Three Stooges.”

I’ve never simultaneously laughed and cried before. Taz is on the bookshelf for now. But the squirrels are on notice.

Great photography, TBogg! Nice Rembrandt-like effect of Fenway’s substantial schnozz emerging from the mysterious shadows of the midground. Now, next week, how about fewer puppy pistolas? These dogs deserve a bit of privacy and dignity. Or dognity.

OK, I’m crying again. Life without pets is no life at all, and it’s so hard when they pass on.
