You’ve got to remember that these are just simple farmers.
These are people of the land.
The common clay of the new West.
You know… morons.

I grew up in a town of 2000. Small town values are just as perverted as large town values. And the morons, just as moronic.

I grew up in a small town. The only way the schools could get kids interested in literature was if the mother of all “wingnuts” a “fundie” on our local school board, banned the books. When she announced that “Catcher in the Rye” should be banned because “The Lord’s name was taken in vain forty-seven times,” the Green Avenue bookstore sold over 2,000 copies in less than a month.

Jon Stewart just rocked this week. The theater that TDS used was right in the thick of the protest routes, so I’m sure Stewart was speaking from first hand knowledge everytime he mentioned teargas and heavy handed cops.

I would like to point out that the morons that were interviewed for that clip were RNC conventioneers visiting St. Paul, not actual citizens of this fair city. We may be stuck with a trigger-happy county sheriff, but St. Paul tends to kick the conservatives to the curb in every election.

Yeah, that’s positively droll! In my little town, fishin’ was for old people–and “pussies” from New York City with expensive bamboo “fly” rods. (God forbid they should have to touch real worms or bugs….)

In my little town, real men shot things. If they couldn’t bag a deer in season, why they’d go out at night and “jacklight” the suckers, in search of a buck with the perfect 12-point rack. And if they were too drunk to hit one illegally, they’d shoot at the deer crossing signs. Guns, ammo, a crate of Rolling Rock ponies per man, and the determination to kill something–even if it’s just painted on sheet steel. Those are the REAL small town values that make America AWESOME!!!

You know what? I want to track down the conservative government retards who wrote Australia’s media and communications laws and shove Aqua Teen Hunger Force boxed DVD collections up their asses in retaliation for my inability to access free Comedy Central content on the web.

Yes, here in the rural heartland of Oklahoma, fishin’ is indeed a value. Cookin’ meth is also a value–easier and, perhaps, safer in a barn or a trailer than in one of those value-free big city garages.

Here in western Montana, fishing is not a value, it is a religion. Meth cooking is definitely on the list, as is shooting things, though mostly for the meat (hard to eat the scenery and we lead the nation in folks working two jobs). Glad to know that nothing much has changed in Oklahoma since I left 20 years ago. Marijuana still the #1 cash crop or has it been entirely supplanted by meth?

If you’re interested in investing in the Oklahoma futures market, I’d buy a couple of carloads of marijuana for December delivery. Meth has been in a bit of a decline since that pesky state legislature made you show ID and sign in to buy Sudafed.

I grew up in Ponca City, Oklahoma. I never went fishin’ and I rarely cooked meth. Luckily, I escaped to Pittsburgh, PA immediately following High School. The rethug convention did not make me yearn for Ponca.

Why are there three people with ties to Oklahoma on tbogg’s blog? Why are a bunch of Okies drawn to a West Coast, urban, cosmopolitan smartass? Something to ponder.

Well, shooting something on sheet metal AND…shooting ”something” while wearing a sheet (nudge nudge wink wink).

Fishin’ is a small town value? I guess that means the southeast Asians (mostly Hmong) and Latinos that I see fishing in Providence, RI would be welcomed with open arms in small towns all across America. (Most of the fishing is in Narragansett Bay, not in the Providence River.) Come to think of it, a lot of those boys like to shoot up stuff, (mostly with Mac 10s), and I’m sure there’s a decent amount of meth being cooked in South Providence. Small town values, all!
