Like humboldtblue and Xpurg8d, I wonder where these wingnuts attended high school–where sniveling weasely newspaper types used the school paper to retaliate against the popular kids. Apparently the concept of the faculty adviser eludes them. In our case, the faculty adviser was only slightly less conservative than Dan Riehl. And even if she weren’t, football was a big deal in our town. At least one Friday night each fall, Joe Paterno would stop by to check out the baby beef we had huddled on the back forty. The school football coach would probably beat the crap out of her if we maligned his precious jocks.

As for the popular kids “taking risks,” if the commenter was referring to stunts like getting shit-f*ced drunk and then driving on one of the most dangerous stretches of mountain road in the county, he may have a point. However, I just can’t place terminal (literally) immaturity in the same category as helping to register black voters in Mississippi, during the height of the civil rights movement.

I’m confused. McCain’s serial lying is working like magic: it’s getting regurgitated by every pundit out there, his numbers are waay up, and his mail order VP has somehow survived the first couple of weeks on the ticket, allowing only ABC’s Gibson to test her… Why the panic? Might they be worried that even the MSM may at some point (a little too soon, perhaps) get fed up with Krusty’s bullshit and start calling him on it? Is this, then, a sort of pre-emptive whine about the treatment they fear their candidate may start getting soon?

I’d like to think so, and I’d certainly love to see the MSM develop a spine. It’d require nothing short of a miracle, but crazier things have been known to happen, so fingers crossed.

I’d be interested to know what those high-schoolers who “had lives, took risks and made a difference” were doing.

It’s been a long, long time since I left HS (almost 40 years), and I’ve never been back, but from what I recall anyone who might have ended up as a commenter on RedState et al moved in with mom and dad after college (for those who attended) and got a series of low-paying jobs, eventually landing with one involving fried foods.

What’s particularly galling is that the people who create the most suffering in school are _just like Sarah and Todd Palin_. Queen Bees and jocks. It’s as though getting behind Palin and Bush is a way to become Cool retroactively, vicariously.
