Actually, for a Republican, 55% approval is pretty far above par these days. Take a look at George Bush’s 27%, just for instance.

At 55%, Palin’s the Republican equivalent of a “star”. Relatively speaking.

The office of the vice president may be the place in which Palin’s status as the pre-eminent D.C. outsider would be more a hindrance than a help. Whatever your views of Washington insiders, clearly some knowledge of the ins and outs of the Congress, the various agencies, NGOs, and lobbyists, is helpful in a vice president. This kind of granular understanding of how D.C. actually works made both Al Gore and Dick Cheney such powerful vice presidents. Failure to understand it wrecked the political careers of Harriet Miers and Alberto Gonzales.

Oh, I don’t know…. Put her in a red St. John knit suit, with black Prada jackboots, and a hat made from some fluffy endagered critter, and Caribou Barbie would be just like Condi–only paler, dumber, and less sophisticated about the latest birth control methods. Arguably, the only person in the Bush cabinet who had “a granular understanding of how D.C. actually works” was Cheney–and the “granular” aspect was most likely due to aluminum chelates in his brain that indicate incipient Alzheimer’s! In short, Palin would look damn good at state funerals–especially if we could get her some sort of red, white and blue pageant-sash-thingy to coordinate with all of her outfits….

I’d say she’s being thoroughly tongue in cheek.
Governor Palin understands the fundamental tediousness of constitutional checks and balances. She knows that if a court gets it wrong, you just build a better court.
Either that or she’s traded her B-complex with Calcium supplements for Krylon Flat Black inhaler.
