While working for Koch, she divorced Mitchell and married Gordon Smith’s (R-OR)’s chief of staff Kurt Pfotenhauer, now a top mortgage-industry lobbyist.

golly, that little tidbit seems newsworthy these days….

Hey. Why would any woman esp a compassionate conservative be actively beating down a DV bill? oh. never mind.

“You have to look at domestic violence as a culture of intimacy,”

I bet she gets her thigh-high black leather stilletto-heeled boots from Condi. I heard she’s good with a whip.

TBogg, wait, there’s more:

Common Dreams

Attorney General John D. Ashcroft last week invited Nancy M. Pfotenhauer, president of the Independent Women’s Forum, to join the National Advisory Committee on Violence Against Women.

The committee is responsible for advising the departments of Justice and Health and Human Services on implementation of the Violence Against Women Act.

The Clinton administration in 2000 credited the legislation for a 21 percent drop in violence against women

the kicker -

Pfotenhauer’s Independent Women’s Forum, however, has waged a bitter fight against the legislation, providing congressional testimony in opposition and supporting a lawsuit challenging the act.

“You have to look at domestic violence as a culture of intimacy,” she said, rather than a “one-size-fits-all, men-beat-up-women” framework.

intimacy, who knew ?
some piece of work Ms Nancy.

Oh comely Pfotenhauer
Young darling of the Right,
You’ve spent most of an hour
In a one-sided fight

With Matthews, king of cable,
On MSNBC
You lied when you were able
‘Twas clear for all to see.

The blame lies with your Party
For Lehman’s quick demise
Your evasions were tarty
And fear was in your eyes.

McCain’s George Bush’s brother
Completely in his thrall,
Thanks for deregulation
Thanks for the market’s fall.

I don’t think it’s fair to say she’s had two rich husbands.

I knew Nancy and Dan back in our undergraduate days at the University of Georgia and only discovered a few days ago that this was the same Nancy. Dan was a New England blueblood as I recall (he acted like it at any rate), but I don’t think he came from serious money. And while wingnut welfare can be pretty generous, I don’t get the impression that Heritage or their little cable show had them rolling in the dough.

What’s odd to me is that she doesn’t use her maiden name at all, using Nancy Mitchell Pfotenhauer. I guess it’s a way of hanging on to the identity and recognition she built up with Dan back in the ’90s.

Ack! Pfotenhauer, a German noun, translates as “paw cutter”.
