So long Carly:
Top McCain-Palin official Carly Fiorina is facing criticism from some within the campaign for a day of what they call "very Biden-like" comments, after the former Hewlett-Packard CEO told two separate interviewers that neither member of the Republican ticket would be capable of running a company.
[...]
But with the economy center stage in the campaign, the words that gave Democrats easy fodder to attack the Republican ticket.
A top McCain official contacted by CNN said, on condition on anonymity, "No big deal, but not how you get on the surrogate all-star team. Very Biden-like."
“This campaign source said Fiorina would be discouraged from additional media interviews.
Another top campaign adviser was far less diplomatic.
"Carly will now disappear," this source said. "Senator McCain was furious." Asked to define "disappear," this source said, adding that she would be off TV for a while – but remain at the Republican National Committee and keep her role as head of the party’s joint fundraising committee with the McCain campaign.
Fiorina was booked for several TV interviews over the next few days, including one on CNN. Those interviews have been canceled.
This is too bad since every time she was invited on a cable show with an Obama supporter she immediately morphed into the Washington Generals to their Harlem Globetrotters.
Personally I’m disappointed that she will be off the cable dog and pony shows because I was really hoping that an enterprising host would eventually get around to asking her (or Mitt!): "Do you really believe that Sarah Palin will make a better vice president than you would have?" just to see what would happen.
In my pool at work, I took "blood would shoot out of her eyes."

I’m disappointed. Fiorina was a huge help to Obama’s campaign. But that’s what happens when that’s the only businesswoman you can get to represent you. Fiorina doesn’t seem to be very good at most things she’s been hired for.
I keep thinking she must be a highly skilled agent of the Democratic Party. Before she’s through all of McGasket will be blown. Maybe she can talk about Viagra vs birth control pills again.
I hope she’s interviewed a lot.
She’s right about Palin. One of her friends was given agricultural director’s job on the basis of liking cows when she was a kid. Like the country needs more of these appointments in the future.
PS. you don’t want to make this guy angry. Well, maybe when it’s sunny. After dark, I’d be cautious.
PPS: “shutthefuckupistan.” very good! I wish the Republican Partay would go there now forever.
I’d like to see Tina Fey give a mock “President Palin State of the Union address” — spoken in tongues.
Well, even if Carly’s in Shutthefuckupistan, Palin & McCain can still be queried about those evil “golden parachutes” and then asked to comment on Carly’s $42 mill.
Enterprising reporter? Someone??
The current ambassador to Shutthefuckupistan, Peggy Noonan, can fill her in on their policies of dipsomatic immunity.
Carly was an affirmative action hire anyway.
Wonder how much of her golden parachute has been donated to McInsane and the RNC? Hell, a large percentage of the RNC’s total budget is probably made up of golden parachute money from various fired BigMoney CEOs.
So, um, SHE’S capable of running a corporation? HP didn’t think so.
Here’s a musical tribute…http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_Y_UIL_w-o
If we’re not going to see much of Carly, are we going to see more of Tucker Bounds? That’s just as good.
Exactly what I’ve been thinking as I’ve watched her run her mouth on the teevee. I am impressed though that she can appear so arrogant and superior in the face of her disastrous reign at HP. This pegs her as rethug through and through. It’s just a special skill they have (see any damn rethug).
Just kicked in the new 37 inch while watching another facilitator, John Snow, on CNBC. To refresh your memory, John Snow was the no talent dope Bush named to be Treasury Secretary five or six years ago. He just said we need more regulation, that the insurance industry is only overseen by a few state regulatory bodies. Also said he doesn’t believe in the “too big too fail” philosophy and the government shoudln’t be involved in these bailouts.
More memory refreshment:
John Snow was named TS after running CSX Transportation (Railroads, nice 19th century technology background for the 21st).
John Snow begged for intervention from the government to bail out CSX.
John Snow fought regulation emphatically across all financial markets while TS. John Snow’s personal brokers bought roughly $10 million in debt instruments from Fannie and Freddie in 2003 (nice call). When everyone howled conflict of interest, he divested (lucky bastard) and stepped down soon after. Black is white, up is down. My head is spinning. In the immortal words of Casey Stengel, “Can anyone here play this game?”
Now the McCain campaign can start giving Phil Gramm (Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act) and Douglas Holtz-Eakin (McCain invented the Blackberry) the chance to speak for its economic policies – only because Herbert Hoover is still dead.
you know, they’ve really got to pick a message and stick to it. on the one hand, they’re trying to sell us the line that Palin is just like any other soccer mom, and therefore is eminently qualified to rule a nation of soccer moms. It may be batshit crazy talk, but at least it’s a consistent strategy. But it’s a little ridiculous to then freak out when Fiorina quite sensibly points out that moose-killing or being able to give decent head in the back seat of a snowmobile aren’t particularly useful skills when trying to run a multi-billion dollar company.
C’mon Republicans, you’re dropping the ball here. Either she rocks because she’s dumber than a batch of rapture cookies, or she’s smart as hell and could run HP from the comfort of her tanning bed. Can’t have it both ways.
It’s different with John, of course: he invented the Blackberry while he was a POW in Hanoi, and he will singlehandedly beat the recession like Chuck Norris busting up a frat party.
Out there is two whole corporate bodies laughing their ass off at McCain. If only Ken Lay was still with us…
Pointing out that the Titanic is sinking is not “fodder for criticizing Captain Edward Smith.” The whole freakin’ economy is collapsing into the black hole of Free-Market economics, and pointing out that this is the case is not a political act, it’s a warning!
I was enjoying her performances and will miss her.
Which lying millionaire is up next?
In the spring, Warren Buffett said he would hire either Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton to run a business. Details, with video clip, in a diary at dailykos.com.

I’m in eugene now, heading for portland, then seattle
Lots of people with medical benefits not so big as Carly’s will be looking at all these banks, insurance companies etc going under and instead of getting all smirky about how their healthcare is great might now be wondering if I’m next.
What happens if I lose my job and I can’t afford to keep up my health insurance? What happens if I get sick? Will I lose my home in this market?
I wish I got paid what Carly did when she lost her job.
Its more than the economy folks!
I hate that fucking bitch. She’s ruined countless lives. I think it was insanity for McCain to put her in so public a position. Total waste of skin, as is Meg Whitman.
That should be a clip the MSM should play after they talk about how Carly wouldn’t hire Sarah as a CEO. I would love to see an MSM GOP hack try and spin Carly as a better CEO than Warren Buffet.
‘cept people lake Fiorina and Gramm don’t really go away…they just go behind the curtain.
[Gramm calling Ron Paul just days ago and strong-arming him to endorse McSame. Paul said no.]
You forgot Phil Gramm the entire GOP economics team is a bunch of trolls, but now with the market in trouble the trolls are Center Stage.
ack! there was no warning for the faint of heart.
more likely Pfotenhauer/Potentate/Pfony…..
Ad should juxtapose McCain climbing into the back of the luxury yacht with the birthday cronies with the footage today of people standing in long lines down in Texas waiting for water and MREs.
McCain divorced from everyday people.
Meg Whitman ! C’mon Down !!!
hey Mr TBogg,
left you a link in your Pfotenhauer thread
I think Carly’s biggest gaffe was to call the Tina Fey SNL skit “sexist.”
Doesn’t that make it trickier for Palin to appear with Fey on SNL to show what a “good sport” she is?
Pfotenhauer
took me a while to learn how to pronounce that name. Not sure, actually, that I’ve got it down yet.
For now, I’m going with “Foot-in-whoore”
That Charlie Gibson bit where McCain said only people making 5 million a year are rich and Charlie gets all mad at Obama for raising his taxes.
We use that to open then we point out the facts of the Obama tax plan most Amricans will get lower taxes.
Also we point out that if we do not start paying the national debt down thanks to the war and all this government bailout of WallStreet interest rates will either go up or the Dollar will go down in value.
The rich got themselves into this mess. They got tax breaks and huge salaries because they knew better now they should literally pay for their own mistakes.
The private sector has failed due to incompetence and greed. The public sector is coming to the rescue of the nation. Reagan’s efforts to “unleash the miracle of free enterprise” via deregulation have ended in abject failure.

This will shrink economy. Market down 284 points.
From McClatchy:

Dow: -363
Dow drops to 349 70 points in a minute! Whoa Nellie, Katie bar the door.
Don’t mince words, guy, what do you really think?
I wonder how much Carly a poster child for overpaid CEO failure hurts McCain now that the Market is tanking?
I wonder how much Phil Gramm the poster boy for deregulation hurts.
Now is not the time to be in favor of deregulated markets free is not fair. McCain if anything seems very, very desperate trying to run from his deregulation past.
Did the solder in the Reagen Revolution just Desert?
I LOVE that Title, T.Bogg!
After being exposed for Lying, McCain is now Engaging in Identity Theft — as he is now sounding more like Barack every day — Change we can believe in, Enough is Enough and now Regulation! Maybe he thinks he can lie, steal and cheat his way to the Presidency. After all its been done before!
Yesterday McCain said we needed a 911 Commission-like study to investigate our failing economy, however, yesterday in his speech in Colorado Barack hit back at McCain with “Instead of offering up concrete plans to solve these issues, Senator McCain offered up the oldest Washington stunt in the book — you pass the buck to a commission to study the problem,” . “But here’s the thing – this isn’t 9/11.” Barack went on to elaborate — we know how we have got here, and what we need is Leadership!” This shows a distinct contrast from a Party with no new ideas and failed policies to Barack, who does have ideas and who is ready to lead!
I quess there is a light at the end of the tunnel because Five Conservative writers have now come forward to speak out and tell the truth that Sarah Palin is not qualified and is not experienced to lead as Vice President or the Presidency. They are making it clear to the public that John McCain made a poor judgment call, a rash judgment and an unneeded risk when times are bad and in a crisis mode. As a gambler, McCain should know you never take an unneeded risk in a crisis when things are already shaky. Enough is Enough! The American people will not reward a dishonorale and immoral man to the top job in the land, someone they cannot have confidence in. A Wizard as in Oz, who blusters and pretends but has no real solutions. American people want someone they can trust and believe in. They want a renewed Government working and looking out for them again, not just corporations and Fat Cats — Giving welfare bailouts and support to Corporations and none to everyday Americans.
So you got your guns, but you can’t afford to pay your mortgage? We have to get rid of that mentallity and embrace unity and change for all. Look, there is a message in Ground Zero — that afer 7 years, it is still a dark hole. This is is a symbol of the failed polices of Republicans, that after 7 years, Ground Zero is still a hole, left desolate and it speaks volumes that we are a country unable to find leadership, unable to unite and unable to rebuild and show ourselves and the world that we know how to overcome adversary, yet trillions of dollars go daily to Iraq, to allegedly rebuild a country which should never have been invaded in the first place. Talk about selling someone the Yellow Brick Road, I mean OIL! Because continued Drilling is not going to end our addiction, it is a band aid. We need 21st Century ideas and innovations, we need Intelligence instead of experience. We need the intellectual capacity of someone who can see the way forward when it is dark and to lead us out of the dark and into the light. We need a Rudolph whose nose was so bright, only he could lead the way from darkness to light and from the unreal to the real.
You know, while I was mucking out stalls this morning I was a-thinkin. I was a-thinkin about how all this bailing out poor rich people on OUR dime (lots and lots of dimes) actually plays right into neocon/Bush/Cheney’s hands. I believe that there is strong impetus to bailout all these rich bastards not for really valid reasons (to save the overall economy), but because it is seen as a way to try and prevent a President Obama and a Democratic Congress from improving/strengthening social/domestic programs.
If they can quickly and definitively drive the national debt so f*ckin’ high that our foreign creditors start to balk, take it just to the verge of where they yell, “No more”, then they figure that there is nothing the next President and Congress can do but slash EVERYTHING good that government does. Slash everything but military spending, of course.
They are seeking to pre-empt any attempts at universal healthcare, school loan improvements, environmental regulations, etc. They see this as a way to kill off valid government and turn the populace, by (government) default (and I mean by default as in “default on loans”), into cast-offs with absolutely nothing. No savings, no retirement, no prospects. The rich will be fine because they have ALL been bailed out so it’s all good.
That’s what I was a-thinkin while mucking out stalls this morning.
Gibson thought Palin used a blizzard of words I guess he hasn’t interviewed P……
17 point drop puts Dow back at pre-Bush #
OT – Dow now lower than when Bush took office. Now – 10,721. Jan 20, 2001 – 10,732.
Pre Bush without adjusting for inflation?
Bailouts for billionaires, breadlines for the rest o’us
I’ve lived in Silicon Valley since before it was Silicon Valley. It’s hard to express the the comtempt that is held Carly. She just didn’t run a compant into the ground, she destroyed the most respected corporate culture we had.
Time to check on gold.
I bought gold about a month ago when all the major shit starting hitting fans. Sure nuff, the week after I bought it the price dropped precipitously. I lost about $1000 in that deal, figuring that if the dollar is going to tank (it simply CANNOT stay strong with the massive borrowing on top of borrowing on top of printing and printing to drive the whole deal) then surely gold is going to be safe.
Nope. I seriously do not understand how this whole thing can be going the way it is.
Said it before: if the Republicans were running the Titanic they would have all miraculously found their way into lifeboats and then insisted that the iceberg had struck the ship.
Straight number.
Great now all Bush has to do is beat Herbert Hoover’s record and Bush America’s first Harvard MBA President can be the worse President EVER for the DOW!
YAY! TEAM!
McMeghan has put making the softball talk show rounds shilling her book about Dad. Maybe she’s up for Carly’s job. Which would be a shame because, you know, family is “off-limits.”
I think gold will go up soon give it until January lots of companies will report end of the year numbers and business losses are tax breaks.
http://seekingalpha.com/articl…..and-silver
Read the link some people have been pushing gold and silver down lately I hope these people are amoung those who just went bankrupt. In this market I do not think they can keep gold and silver down past January.
They never show one picture of McCain’s adopted daughter? Now having her gush about how great her dad is might get McCain some minority votes.
Removing Carla Fiorina from the campaign is SEXIST!!!
I mean, the EEOC should investigate how many women the McCain camp still has in its upper echelons, and ARE THEY ALLOWED TO SPEAK WITHOUT MALE HANDLERS (no pun intended).
The weaker the stock market, the weaker the Dollar, the more National debt we have, the weaker the global economy the better Gold looks.
Something is amiss about that.
or male handling? (pun intended)
McMeghan has put making the softball talk show rounds
and in true McCain fashion (remember The View debacle?) totally fucking up even those warm and fuzzy, “well, aren’t you just the cutest thing?” opportunities.
I’m sure she made *lots* of friends when she said that *only* her family understands war….
I think McCain is afraid of loosing the Racist vote again.
Yeah Raven, Norske and all the other Vets here I’m sure enjoyed that.
Just to be clear I am not a Vet.
Well then,, she’d be perfect to take over for “can’t run a corporation” Carly.
Prairie Sunshine:
“‘cept people lake Fiorina and Gramm don’t really go away…they just go behind the curtain.”
Before the campaign is over, I see the Lone Maverick holding forth in the spotlight in front of the curtain, behind which his VP selection and entire staff huddle, with Joe Lieberman as babysitter.
“POW! More regulation! @#$^%* earmarks! Cut taxes! Less regulation!” the Lone Maverick will cry. “Tax health care benefits! POW! Invisible hands tickle! Obama is a philatelist!”
Recently unemployed people trying to hold on to their healthcare are not going to like McCain taxing their healthcare.
Whatever happened to Holy Joe, anyway. I haven’t caught sight of him since Palin arrived on the scene.
I’ve found Fiorina to be off-putting. The sight and sound of her annoys me, no, grates on me. As a liberal who believes that wingnut sensibilities are directly opposite mine, I assume most of them must love her; therefore, I’m glad she’s off the teevee.
because Herbert Hoover is still dead.
Some of us believe in reincarnation.
That’s funny. needed a laugh.
They beat that to death on the last thread.
The market’s not buying McCain’s “form a commission” idea.
He’s alone and pouting.
I don’t know where Holy Joe is dang I wanted to kick him around somemore the Lake has always been the place to be for the best Joe buttkickings:)
Bush fireside presser: solemn “tone”…no questions…
Sorry, it must have been before I showed up.
Hope he doesn’t go back to being a Democrat.
Hoover is dead, his policies may live on in the Republic Party, but we’re in the process of doing something about that as well.
The situation is FUBAR on WallStreet I am not sure if anything could be done right now except wait to hit bottom. I’m not sure where the bottom is though.
Nooooo!
No questions? Is Bush Audio-Animatronic?
He is running for Prime Minister of Isreal
NP, just wanted you 2 know.
Let’s see, if you appoint someone to an agricultural board because she loved cows as a child, it really opens up the possibilities for appointments to administration positions on a national level.
Palin could appoint an old classmate whose boyhood hobby was coin collecting as Treasury Secretary. The Secretary of Defense will obviously be the guy who most enjoyed playing with toy soldiers. The Secretary of State will be the gal who was really into the Model UN, even though it was only because the teacher who sponsored it was a hunk.
That’s true, but you can be sure that whatever McCain wants do do should not be done.
What the Bush Pressor about the Hurricane I might understand no questions, but if its the economy then you want questions to reassure people.
We may see circuit breakers kick-in on Wall Street today…the Market appears to have Lost Confidence in the Bush-McCain Un-Regulated Greed Theory of Economics.
Hey Raven
I have a vietnam vet in my german class that i’m teaching this semester. He just decided to go back to school and get his BA.
Here are a few words from Stan Goff from a Truth Out interview from way back when in 2003:
“Americans are not critical thinkers by and large. we suffer from a collective sociogenic learning disability based on the complete commodification of our conciousness by consumerism and electronic media. So we are not only bitterly unhappy and alienated, we are intensely stupid and attached to denial.”
Yes no more ideas from the GOP to fix the economy. Mitt was on CNN talking about how we need tax cut in this economy.
The moron does not seem to understand that either interest rates will go up or the Dollar will go down unless we pay our National Debt.
Mitt does not seem to understand that the miracle of interest means that the longer we wait to pay the National Debt the higher taxes will be later on.
But he continued to flog the tax cuts help the economy bit even though after 6,7? years of Bush tax cuts we now have a DOW lower than it was when Bush took office!
I think you’ve got it.
No thats our inbred ruling class the GOP and the Center Dems.
Sorry Mitt was on CNN yesterday.
Fortunate Sons don’ need no steenkin’ theenkin’
Mitt wants tax cuts for the same reason Bush wanted tax cuts. It has nothing to do with the economy. It has everything to do with Mitt and Bush being the ones who actually get the tax cuts.
Unless the DOW keeps going down another 500 points:)
The Washington solution is growth to pay off we have to grow the economy and the population. Solution open the borders and make babies.
True but repeating a bad lie like this when the market is going down is counter productive, its like asking your mom to buy more cookies after someone just broke the cookie jar.
Moms/Voters tend to get suspicious good liars know when not to lie.
That might work when the economy is good much like a grasshopper in the summer, the DOW though seems to be facing a quick harsh winter and even us ants are worried.
St. McCain seems to not be a good liar.
One would think that after decades of McCain doing nothing BUT lying, that he would, at some point, get better at it.
But then again, he WAS a POW, you know.
Blue Texan has a nice new post up for our perusal and edification.
Blue Texan up over at the Mothership!
Oxymorons: Palin-McCain Calls For More Regulation, Less Government
Unlike NAFTA the EU allows unlimted movement between EU countries but in order to get into the EU the countries need to get a stable economy first.
NAFTA destroyed Mexican farm supports but curiously not American farm supports millions of poor farmers came here to look for work and unlike the EU they were not treated as equals, which lowered American wages.
We don’t need to send Mexicans back we just need to force employers to treat all their employees the same and wages here would rise. Or the Mexicans would go home and start a revolution either of which I’m cool with.
Ummmm, before the Mexicans go back to Mexico to start a revolution, perhaps we could first get them to help us start one here first.
Once we clean up the cesspool that is now the United Serfs of Amerikka, we could go with them to Mexico and help them out with their problem.
Ok
How could McCain put this fool and I mean fool in an upfront position in his campaign. To those who know at HP and Lucent, Fiorina is a complete screw up. After HP, she tried to be appointed head of the world bank, failing at that she ends up, up front for McCain.
Au contraire, Ms. Palin would be just as good a vice president as Ms. Fiorina was a CEO.
Damn, that pic scares the hell out of me and I’m fearless.
Holy Joe is now very busily learning how Harry Reid defines “payback” and “persona non grata”. Sen Lieberman is also entertaining how to decorate his new office/former janitor’s broom closet and which bus to take once his parking privileges are officially revoked.
Of course neither could Bush, and he got elected twice. But then again, neither could Carly–Ooh,-let’s-buy-Compaq! And-I-had-NO-IDEA-that-using- directors’-personal-identifiers-to-gather-information-on-them-was-fraud!–Fiorina
Oops: http://event.iastate.edu/event/16396/
I was so looking for her to visit us here in the heartland.
Any of you reprobates who already have reservations in town can contact me and we’ll go out for beers instead.
OK, now I see it’s all past tense.
Never mind.
SPD are a gang of thugs. Keep your activity to King County and you should have good results. If you are accepting special requests, how about the pedestrian overpass approaching Kirkland (just south of 70th) on 405?
