Heading back, so here is something to kill some time that isn’t from SNL from last night.
One of the reasons I never miss This American Life is Sedaris. That and it is the most compelling documentary on any media.
“This American Life” with any of the contributors remains one of the few redeeming features of NPR. It’s a great show that always has something thoughtful and thought provoking to offer. “Morning Sedition” or “No Things Considered”? Eh, not so much.
Sedaris is too funny and the Santaland Diaries is a classic. Oh and what he’s talking about here is known in medical circles as a “Texas Catheter”.
I am going to be honest with you, there is very few shows I can stomach on NPR anymore. Since I don’t watch TV it is distressing. Sunday afternoon is good. and a few syndicated shows, that’s it. Another “murder” by the GOP.
There ARE very few shows…
PRI. PRI. It’s a PRI syndication from Chicago Public Radio. Your NPR station might buy it, but it ain’t anything to do with Nice Polite Republicans.
And my favourite Sedaris essay is ‘Six To Eight Black Men’. Having spent a winter in Amsterdam, it’s achingly real to me. (You can find Sedaris’s reading on the YouTubes.)
David Sedaris is a national treasure. Who needs to do abdominal crunches when you can read or listen to Sedaris and get the same workout by howling with laughter?
Point very well taken, pseudo, thank you for raising it. My local station here in Vermont is one of the lamer in the nation. I was part of a lengthy, (if entirely quixotic) battle back in 2003 to get VPR to add Democracy Now! to their line-up. — Needless to say, they didn’t much like the idea of letting Goodman and the Dirty Fucking Hippie Report anywhere near their precious airwaves. So we’re still stuck with Juan Williams and the good ol’ boys from Nice Polite Republican Radio.
