I have occasionally used a Tbasset pic as my wallpaper, despite being mostly a cat person. Right now I have last week’s Fenway-on-the-chewed-cushion photo up. I explained to my visiting 4-yo grandniece how Fenway found an intruder chewing on the cushion, and bravely chased him away; and how he had previously discovered *another* B&E attacking Mr. Baseball (in the background of the photo) and routed him, but not before Mr. B was de-stuffed.

Even at four, she is properly skeptical (she has experienced dogs, and puppies); but nonetheless sturdily declares that she believes Fenway.

Brooks Robinson was my favorite ballplayer when I was growing up (I was an Orioles fan, and I love good defense), so I approve of that name (you could have named Casey “Brook,” that’s become a girl’s name lately). We have 2 Bassets (and 2 cats), and that’s plenty for us, but they are so adorable and irresistable…

Just a thought–a new baby might actually improve Fenway’s behavior. He’ll suddenly be the elder statesman. Sounds like it could be a very exciting Xmas for you guys (or summer if you chicken out).

I am afraid that should you find yourself down a pit with a serial killer saying “It rubs the lotion on its skin, or else it gets the hose again” and the only way out is to get the dogs to stand up and walk toward a bone, you’d be screwed.

Pets tend to do that to you. We started with two cats. Then our neighbor found an adorable stray (with extra toes and a messed up tail) that somebody was abandoning behind the local supermarket and brought it home. Two became three.

Then, a couple of years later, my youngest son wanted a kitten. My wife, upon taking him, let him get the one he wanted, but absolutely fell in love with another one there. Three became five.

Then one of our older three cats (my favorite) became ill and died (cancer). A week later, I adopted one I fell in love with. Five became four, then five.

Then, the family dog died just a few weeks ago. We didn’t really want another dog (we realized a while ago that we’re cat people). My wife and I went looking for pet supplies, saw a couple of cats from the pound, a gray two month old kitten, which is slightly crosseyed, and a one year old Siamese Lynx Point, which has been christened Obama, with the proviso that if he manages to screw up the election, he’ll be renamed on November 5.

Five became seven. Ack.

You don’t even want to see my monthly budget for cat litter and cat food.

Bonus points for naming your daughter after Casey Stengel, TBogg. The best I could get away with was naming our sons after a couple of famous military leaders.

Sine you mentioned it, that is who the L&T Casey is actually named after. Had she been a boy, her (his) first and middle name name would have been Brooks Robinson.

True story.

Well, since the present TDoggs have sports-related names, I supposed the BTBNL’s name should follow in that vein.

How about “Casey Stengel?” Case looked kind of droopy and basset-like in his Mets period. Oh, wait. You’ve already got a Casey on your team. . .

Well, since the present TDoggs have sports-related names, I supposed the BTBNL’s name should follow in that vein. This, however will require some thought, as the BTBNL shall arrive with a vast, ready-made audience, and shall require a moniker befitting that stature.
