I glibly commented yesterday that it is entirely possible that an Obama landslide could be in the making causing the networks to call the election early, possibly before the polls close in California. Even if they don’t specifically call it for Obama, should Florida or Virginia go blue, it’s going to be pretty obvious how the story is going to end. And while this would make me all happy-happy joy-joy, I’m afraid that the early knowledge of an Obama victory might dampen turnout which could have and effect on Prop 8, the gay marriage initiative.
I suppose it could go either way. Obama voters don’t turn out and Prop 8 succeeds (for the moment) in relegating gays back to second class citizenship. Or dispirited McCain voters don’t turn out and Prop 8 fails and we get to have lots of fabulous weddings.
Take nothing for granted. Vote and make sure that everyone you know who is eligible to vote, also votes.
Unless they’re going to vote for McCain. Then tell them election is on the 6th.
They’ll get over it.
Eventually.

Also, encourage people to get out an vote early (before the 4th if possible), and not wait until just before the polls close. Lines may be long, and we know there will be problems.
VOTER FRAUD!!! VOTER FRAUD!!! VOOOOOTERRRRR FRAAAAAAUD!!!!!!!
.
Or Hawaii!! What about Hawaii????
Or that blockhead state up there near Russia.
Hawaii is in the tank for Obama… so they don’t count.

Poor form.
Imitating those whose tactics you despise to achieve your own ends–regardless of how well-meaning–is indefensible.
California, where it’s harder to pass a new tax law (two-thirds vote required) than it is to alter our state Constitution (simple majority required).
Ronnie Reagan and Howard Jarvis are sure gonna have a lot of company down there in Hell.
Monoglot, I’m pretty sure Tom was being snarky.
Then tell them election is on the 6th.
No need to be dishonest. Low turnout favors Republicans, right? So anyone who wants the Republicans to win should stay home.
Thanks, TBogg. I’d read elsewhere that an apparent landslide for Obama might work against the defeat of Prop 8, but couldn’t see how/why that would work. Now, I get it. Not sure how someone in Colorado can help defeat this measure in CA, but I’ll go find a site at which to donate. Maybe that will help someone get to the polls to vote. Thx.
A larger margin of victory means more overwhelming support for change and a greater repudiation of the Bush/Cheney Junta and the Republicans. If Obama wins early in VA or Fl, create a bandwagon effect instead of depressing the voting. Every vote counts, make the landslide bigger.
Winning is the only thing.
And if they don’t know the date of the election, do you actually trust them to vote wisely?
