Well…. That explains quite a bit. From the tone of her posts, I assumed she was a college freshman–the sort who can be forgiven for being immature, impulsive, perhaps rebellious with the flagrant drinking and all. It turns out she’s incurious, uninspired, sorely lacking in ambition, and probably not the brightest bulb in the box. I suppose if she can’t get into law school in Texas, that a friend of daddy’s who is an alumnus will see she gets into Harvard B-School.

Meghan McCain is 24 years old.

From a backwater political town to the front page of the New York Times and Saturday Night Live in a little over a year is an impressive accomplishment. Finally, people may understand how she got the name “Sarah Barracuda”.

It’s a quite “fitting” nickname.

I think Meghan’s actually in her early 20’s and hangs out a lot in Hollywood, shopping on Robertson. If her look were pure California girl, I’d cut her some slack, but she looked just plain old JcPenney tacky in that grey dress. And if she can campaign so she can be Princess Meghan, then she can do it in a decent outfit.

Target and Wal-Mart aren’t good enough for Hockey Mom? And how can the RNC rationalize dressing up the Palin kids?

What I find most amusing about all this is that Palin and co. don’t really look that great. While I liked the suit Palin wore on her UN field trip and the green jacket was cute, the rest of the stuff is fairly unimpressive.

zumpie and Mrs. T: Better yet, how can Saks and “Needless-Markup” rationalize charging their prices for stuff that looks almost exactly like stuff you would see at Target and Wal-Mart?

As for the clothes on her daughter, anyone who’s ever tried to find nice-looking maternity wear knows how impossible it is.

Sophronia: “Maternity fashions” is an oxymoron…. They’re society’s way of punishing you for enjoying sex.

And Willow’s dresses look like the smock-topped dresses worn by every wingnut political candidate’s daughters. Is this some sort of uniform?

And in Meghan McCain’s case, why are HER clothes so horrible? There’s NO excuse from that corner.

Zumpie: She’s a teenager. And for the same reason I still refuse to wear fluffy pink sweaters. My mom loved clothes and always looked put together. When I was Meghan’s age, living in jeans was not only more comfortable, IMHO, but had the added bonus of annoying the h*ll out of mom–especially when I pointed out that jeans were more cost effective.

FINALLY: If I had $150K to blow on clothes, I’d close down my business for a year, pay all my bills in advance, and go to Italy, where they’d never know I was recycling last year’s stuff. Because in their opinion, Americans generally have no fashion sense, anyhow.

It’s almost like whatever staffer went shopping for her made it a mission to only buy THE most expensive stuff in the store (and honestly, I’m sure they don’t get to dress themselves on such a limitless budget). Both Neiman’s and Sak’s have more moderate ($300-$600 each) suit and dress departments, where again, Barbie could’ve been quite nicely outfitted for $10K – $15K TOTAL. But what works out to $2,500 per day since the convention spent on clothing has me scratching my head.

As for Bristol’s clothes: Mimi Maternity stocks perfectly passable prego-wear–and I find some of the tacky dresses they stick Willow in much more unattractive. To say nothing of that uber cheezy grey tent Meghan McCain wore.
