I predict you will have to take a break from this place from time to time. Most of us have. People get pissed off and pissed on, retreat and lurk, and then return, maybe. Some come back. Some don’t. It’s really quite satisfying to be here and it’s also quite satisfying to walk away.

What in the hell are you talking about? Which were my “lynching” comments? Bush and Cheney? What? Basically, she was trying to blame Obama-loving bucks for disfiguring and raping her. If that’s a “cry for help” and not a disgusting calculation, well, that’s a cry that can be made from jail. I think that she’s responsible for her actions. That’s LYNCHING to you these days?

And this whole “mistakes will be made by 20 year olds” is just bizarre. She’s not some kid in Iraqi unsure if someone is aiming a gun at them or not. She went to PA from Texas to volunteer for the McCain campaign and she decided, for some reason, unbidden, I assume, to pull this stunt. Overzealous, but unprovoked.

Yeah, that’s why I said it. For that huge amount of credit I needed when doing something when I was much younger, not as an example that, overwhelmingly, 20 year olds are sentient adults fully capable of distinguishing between right and wrong. By your logic, I would have been more worthy if I had called the cops, the newspaper and a political campaign and said that a gang of Mexicans beat me up because I was trying to teach English as a Second Language.

What was the name of the program and what city was it in? Travis County Adult Literacy Council, Austin Texas. I was a VISTA volunteer. And I set up satellite programs in libraries in East Austin. Jackass.

I assume other people here also did non-idiotic things when they were 20 too.

Borderline Campaign Disorder: The “B” Hoax

On a cold night in –, a disturbed young woman committed an act all too common–she called in an attack on herself, stating that she had been attacked by a black man who had robbed her, and, seeing the McCain sticker on her car, in a fit of social activism somehow compatible with his immediately previous psychopathy, slashed a “B” into her face. ; that the B was, in fact, backwards–as would be the case if one was putting it on themsleves in a mirror, was no doubt meant as a literary irony, such as the “Amerika” of earlier social radicals, while the lightness of the scratching–despite his cited “rage”–was no doubt a signal of his electoral ambivalence in this tight race.

Of course, the event, implausible even to those most rabid fictionalists on right wing, was a hoax. Anyone who understands the diagnosis of Borderline Personality Disorder is well aware of what happened here. Extreme needs for attention combine with physically destructive behavior–most often seen in cutting one’s own skin–in an act meant to bring both outer love as it attacks inner self hate.

The act is rarely carefully planned. One of the key features of Borderline Personality Disorder is impulsivity. The act is usually spurred by rage. As a result, they spring to action, to address the immediate need, without any consideration of how the behavior will later unravel. There is simply an intense desire to address a powerful sense of abandonment with an impulsive and ultimately self-destructive action.

In a supreme irony, these characteristics–impulsivity, an emphasis on the grand gesture that is poorly thought through and ultimately self destructive–mirror the tactical efforts of the McCain/Palin ticket throughout this campaign.

Perhaps the act was wiser than it seems.

Perhaps it was meant as homage.
