Poor Stanley Kurtz.
While everyone else is either making plans to live in post-Maverick America or pondering going Full Metal Masada, Stanley is still working the "Who is Barack Obama" angle:
First and foremost, the spring 1996 issue of New Party News, the leading publication of the New Party at the time, clearly claims that Barack Obama is a party member. If the New Party didn’t actually have members, why would the chief party organ claim that it did? Again, logically, how can a political party exist without members?
Surely utilizing this knowledge along with using curves and squiggles to connectt the dots between Bill Ayers, Jeremiah Wright, Rashid Khalidi, Tony Rezko, and Kimbo Slice, Kurtz will finally prove that Barack Obama is actually the son of…

Oh, fuck it. There’s just no point in beating a dead horse’s ass.
The reference to Kurtz made me think of Kurz and Heart of Darkness, but
1) That’s not all bad
2) It’s just the way loose association works for me
I would like to take this opportunity to post a picture of my neighbor’s talented pumpkin carving which I have fondly named Schmuck and if you make it wallpaper for 10 minutes as a talisman of luck for Nov. 4, Obama is guaranteed to win. I don’t know about the 60 vote majority:

Why do I feel that there is going to be a run on Depends and Hanes around the National Review offices on Nov. 4?
A local TV show here that provides “commentary” on local and state politics has one liberal, three wingnuts, and one middle of the roader who misses a lot on their panel. The Wingnuts are full of cliches laced with ignorance like “Colin Powell endorsed Obama simply because he was black.” I watch them for a few minutes for their comic delusions, and it was fun to watch them cling to heavily weighted polls and how “independents” (a dog whistle for white racists ala Frank Rich’s column this morning).
They’re going to need a warehouse full of Depends and it’s going to be fun to watch.

My God, what sad, sad little people.
Man, like 30 seconds on Wikipedia would’ve prevented his dozen paragraphs of nonsense. The New Party was a fusion party like the NY Working Families Party: they could endorse members of other parties as their own.
What about the “Connecticut for Lieberman” party?
I think it was in late ‘95 that I was at a dinner in Hyde Park where Obama was eating New potatoes.
He left one on the plate, as one would, if one were trying to obscure the fact that one LOVED New potatoes.
He probably knows that. He’s just hoping his readers don’t.
